Roof Alignment

Does anybody have a technical document on roof alignment?

My roof creaks and clunks as I go over gradients and also I think the pin on the back window is rattling/knocking against the rear deck.

I took it to BMW and they didn't do anything.

I've done the anti rattle bits on this site btw.

Normally comes with some felt stuck on, which soon falls off.
Try finding something similar and stick on.
I tried once the woolly bit of some stick on Velcro, but was too thick.

I'll re apply that felt but I wonder if there are technical instruction on how to align all the stoppers properly? There must be a procedure to follow.

The roof is not designed to be user serviceable. There are so many ways to adjust it you can do more harm than good. The processes you refer to are held on the Bmw technical system of you have access to someone who works for a dealer.

That said, I spent serious time when I bought the car researching and figuring out all the roof mechanism for the same reasons as yourself and in the end very little needed adjustment.

The biggest improvement was made in two areas, the metal strip on the boot deck (removal and felting) and felting the two rubber stops for the rear clamshell.

Ok good to know cheers! I've felted the clamshell bit. I started taking the metal strip off a few weeks ago but as I pulled one side up, I found it had lots of putty stuff at each end and so it seemed a bit more involved (I didn't have time). Did you find this as well? I will do this when I have a day spare in the spring.

Other than this one rattle from the rear I have a rattle in the cabin as well. Keep meaning to get my wife to drive so I can hunt it down.

Which metal strip is that? I have been trying to get rid of the some of the roof creaks, already felted the rubber stops but wasn't aware about a metal strip. Maybe that will finally get rid of the creak when going over uneven roads!

Hello

10/10 for effort  but this is for the E85 soft top, not for the Aluminium folding top on the E89

but many thanks for the time and effort for your thread, as I can see this must have took some tome to research and type etc :)
