Ronal / ACT SX split rim refurb

Having built a few sets of split rims, this is my new project.., thought I would start a thread incase anyone wants to do there own and use it as a reference.. It's not that hard to do..

I found 4 off in 8.5x18 et13, and then 2 more 9.5x18 et18 so 6 wheels to do, which works out well as I can swap them between my VW T5 and the Z4 as they are the same PCD

I need to source a couple of different barrels and possibly 2 dishes which are available from Germany Felgendefuch (great place for split rim spares), hoping to end up with

2 off 9.5x18 et around 30 / 3" dish - Rear z4 / Rear T5
2 off 9.5x18 et 35-40 2.5" Dish - Front T5
2 off 8.5 or 9x18 et35ish - 1.5/2" dish Front T5

Made a start today, having done these in the past, the amount of bolts you have to undo really does you in, so I did these with my new to me air gun



This saved hours of work taking about 2 hours total to remove all 282 bolts






Bit of heat on the barrels and dishes they split easily

First job is to get the centres over to TT Tools to have the rear faces milled down to increase the offset,

Mine have a lot of meat in the bolt holes compared to et40 centres so will be turned down some

The rim bolts are soaking in vinegar now the help clean them up for a few day

That's as far as I am at present, will update the thread as I go along (if anyone is interested )

Shame there aren't enough Z4s on multi-piece wheels out there!

Had an early start today , on the road at 6am to get over to Chelmsford to see the lads at TT Tools, they machined my faces on the rear pads to get them to a higher offset taking 18mm off the rear face, also got 4mm taken off my 19's whilst there. Can't recommend these guys enough for wheel modification .

Thought I would just finish the thread with some pics of the finished items, fronts still to be built and went wider on the rears to 10.25 ET45 to suit my other car
