Rocker cover gasket help

Just tackled this job, is this gap between cover and gasket normal?

2003 3.0

What make of gasket did you use?
I got a cheaper one for a 2.0 recently and the section that slots into the top cover groove was too deep so it wouldn't sit down tight.
I binned it and bought an Elring one which was fine.

Genuine BMW
 
OK, went and checked both the 3.0 and the 2.5 and they both look exactly the same as that. About a 2mm gap just along from the half-moon section. So all should be good. :thumbsup:

Brilliant - thanks so much for checking. Taken it out for a run and all is good!
 
Looking like there is no leak, it is advised in BMW TIS that gasket sealant is used around the half moon shapes of the cover front and back where the gasket changes direction to provide a leak proof seal in these areas and the flat part at the front between the Vanos housing, the rest of the gasket requires no sealant. The ribs on the gasket all compress along the long flats and provides a number of barriers that prevent oil leaking. It is advisable to replace the round rubber seals that fit under the cover securing bolts as these harden with age and heat cycles and don't always provide a good seal which will be the cause of a vaccum leak and mess fuel trims up.
I have used Elring brand gaskets in the past and found them to be good. I did source the 15 round cover seals from BMW, I have seen complete gasket including the round 15 seals can be bought as a pack on ebay, not sure of the Brand.

I used the gasket sealant and replaced all of the 15 rubber washers too.
