Rocker Cover Crack

Evening all
Whilst locating an oil leak (looks like the oil filter housing) I spotted a crack in the rocker cover. See pic.
Question is…
Does it need replacing, as there’s no oil leaking but I guess there could be a vacuum issue.
If so would Autodoc aftermarket options be suitable, compared with an eBay genuine used option. I imagine old ones will be brittle by now.
Any brands to avoid?

Looks like a nice place for some epoxy repair. I'd remove the hose. plug the opening with a rag or paper towel, grind or file the crack in a "V" shape to allow for the epoxy. (leave some of the part there...do not file all the way into the hollow) Clean area with alcohol, mix epoxy apply and and smooth it out. I usually use a tongue depressor for such smoothing. Allow epoxy to cure and reinstall hose. Sand or file any excess once cured if you wish.

Over here one of the favorites is JB Weld...I'm sure you have a similar product where you live.

You could go the repair route as Old-Duckman describes but do check the rest of the cover for any further signs of degredation. I found on a mates 2.2 that the cover was cracked and crumbling around No4 Plug well and the cause of an air leak we were searching for. A smoke test revealed it. He obtained a used replacement and we fitted that.

Initially I’ll have a good look for any other signs of damage and report back.

Any thoughts on the durability of 20 year old ‘OEM plastic’, verses new ‘pattern part’ plastic?
