Evening all,
So is this roof damage repairable, i'm told the roof is watertight.
If so can this be invisibly repaired, or is this a definite roof replacement.
I highly doubt that can be repaired to the point that it would be invisible.
If you want to roof to be flawless, replacement might be the only option.
Thankfully the roof does not rely on the fabric to be watertight. There is a rubber membrane underneath making these roofs far more durable.
Many of us have the same marks on our roof. It is from the roof rubbing when folded down. My concern would be that your new roof developed the same marks after a couple of nice warm summers.
My personal opinion: that roof looks in fine condition. It does not require replacement.
My roof has worn in exactly the same spot ( it must be a design fault) and I used this kit. The fix isn’t perfect but hopefully the glue will stop it getting any worse...

That's the area which rubs on the black seal that goes around the bodywork. The fabric touches it when the roof is retracted. I know this as my red roof always has black marks from where it rubs on that seal! Drives me mental in summer when the roofs up and down like a yo-yo.
As above, if you lower your roof you can see where it makes contact with the rubber seal around the boot. When you drive with the roof down, the vibration and movement causes friction and results in those wear marks. I actually considered putting a bit of duct tape or something on the rubber seal in those spots to try and reduce the friction a little.
The couple of options you have for this are probably: i) try and DIY it with a roof repair kit (e.g. eBay link above - sounds interesting with the fibres etc - or Cabriodoc liquid vinyl, sold in the UK by SLSHOP); or ii) get an upholsterer to sort it with a proper patch. d:class in Chobham is a name that’s come up in the forum before. Not used them myself but they have a great reputation.
Here are some pics from my attempt at using the liquid vinyl, which was structurally amazing but could have benefitted from a better finish (e.g. by patterning the surface as it cured):
I have the tan top on an 03. I'm starting to have those marks on the top as well. One spot is starting to damage the fabric and break through. What solutions have you all come up with? I see this is an old thread.
