Roadster roof question

Don't worry - not about the motor going. Mine works fine every time (touch wood). My question surrounds the closing of the roof. When I do so, the windows lower, roof comes over and latches in but the windows do not fully return to the position they were in while I had the roof open. Is this normal? I can't imagine BMW would have overlooked this?

What do you mean? When you close the roof, the windows will also close, same if you put the roof down.

I don't believe they have a memory setting.

Hi, You need to keep your finger on the roof button after the roof has latched and then the windows should fully close. If you take your finger off the button after the roof has latched, the windows will stay half way down. Cheers.

Well I didn't know that
But just fitted a Gaptech so not an issue now :)

Hmmm - I thought that because the light didn't flash it had finished the roof closure process. I want to go outside and try it now!

Rich88, there is a memory setting of sorts. There has been previous posts on this. Every now and again I do mine. Start with your drivers window. With the roof closed, key in ignition and select position 2 without starting the engine, hold finger down on window button. When window down fully keep button pressed for no more than 5 second and release. Then raise the window keeping finger under the switch, when window fully up again keep finger under button for no more than 5 seconds. Repeat with passenger window. Switch ignition off and remove key. Next start your car and try your roof. With mine windows drop half way stop roof opens stops in lower position keeping finger on roof down button windows should now come back up together. Once there up release button. Revers action to close roof.
Good luck.

Cookie - I can confirm that this does do something! My passenger window now returns to the fully up position but my drivers does not! LOL! Oh well - hardly the biggest issue to ever grace this forum.

When I lower the roof using the button inside the car, the windows go partly down while it's opening, then return to fully up as the finale of the operation. It's similar when I raise the roof from the interior button.

On the other hand, if I lower the roof from outside the car by holding down the open button on the key fob, the windows go all the way down and stay there. I don't mind, in fact I prefer it that way. But it seems odd that BMW should go to the trouble of programming the two modes differently.

I'd prefer my windows to stay down too if I open the roof. Perhaps this should be added to the all-in-one thread running right now...

This must also mean your driver windows doesn't go up with one touch on the door controls either.

IF the windows don't go up with one touch then they won't when used in conjunction with the roof.

You're quite right - I have to hold the button down to make it go up. Any idea how I can make it raise with one touch?

Well does not seem BMW have not changed this from the E85/6 to the E89 mine does exactly the same from the button in the cab the windows go half down and close up when the roof goes up or down but when I open the roof from the key fob the windows stay down. I have also had some strange half way actions and one window closing and one staying open. Weird

Right - this is frustrating me no end! My passenger window goes up automatically with one press, my driver's side does not. My passenger window will close when I close the roof, my driver's window will not. I believe my driver's window does go all the way down with one press of the button but that's it.

Can anyone provide a definitive solution as to how to match my driver's window to my passenger window. I have tried the following.

1. Turn key to position 1.

2. Lower driver's window fully and continue to hold button for over 10 seconds (no click heard).

3. Raise window fully and continue to hold switch for over 10 seconds (no click heard).

4. Turn ignition off and remove key.

5. Start car.

6. See if window has sorted itself (it hasn't).

I know it's only small and basically a non-issue but I dislike feeling like I've been defeated by a car!
