Roadster folding roof trouble!

Tried asking help from zpost.com but got no help

I'm having some trouble with my 2003 Z4 roadster's folding roof. Sometimes it works as it should but too often it get's stuck in the start when it needs to detach from the front. There is just the roof motor sound and nothing happens, and after couple of seconds the motor stops and the roof-button starts to blink.

If I give it a little nudge on the start it works well, but I would like it to work properly without any tricks.

Anyone had this? Any suggestions what could I do to fix this? Fixing this at the dealer could be very expensive.

Never heard of this before but sounds like the 2 catches that are engaging on the top of the screen are not releasing fully. Have a look there to see if they are free moving, lubricated and not snagging on anything.

The motor will be shutting down for safety and the sensor flashing just to advice it up or down cycle is not complete.

My 2003 did this for a bit, i found some silicon spray lubricant on the latches at the front would ensure they dont catch. However the biggest difference was using the silicone lubricant on the actual folding hinges of the roof itself.

Retract the roof half way and give them little spray and wipe of any excess before repeating (anything that move give it a squirt).

Found the roof motor had a much easier time retracting after doing this a few times and its not done it ever since! :D

Anyone having issues with the top catching the rollbar during retraction?

I've heard this from several people and that in some cases it wears a hole through the inner liner.

One issue I had was the inner liner came unclipped from the outer allowing it to droop slightly at the top rear corner. Could that be the issue?

Saw a post somewhere that you need to fold the outer canvas in a particular way as it goes down to set a different crease pattern
