Road trip to Wales

If you have time when you are in Snowdonia,a trip on the steam train from Porthmadoc through the mountains to Caernarfon is Magic if the sun is shining.Another great experience is the zip wire ride over the slate quarry just outside Bethesda .You have to book well in advance as it's very popular.

And no-ones mentioned a visit to Portmerrion either... :)

Wow, just had a look at pictures of Portmerrion and it's unbelievably beautiful. Wales does have hidden gems, doesn't it?

After much discussion my partner has decided we should go with Carol's suggestion of Brecon/Pembroke this April and then North wales in August.

Cheers guys, your contributions were really appreciated

Good idea.

Between the Brecons and Pembrokeshire, nip down to the Gower Peninsula. Worms Head is spectacular on a nice day. If your lucky you'll see Dolphins, but also Worms Head is known as the sleeping Dragon, due to the uncanny resemblance. (Head is to the right )

The Legend says... The Dragon fell asleep on the beach, then the tide came in and put his fire out and he's slept ever since. :o

I got married at Portmeirion. I can really recommend the hotel. Many of the rooms are dotted throughout the village. Parking for residents is in the village. - really cool.

We had a week in Snowdonia last September weather was great roads as described are fantastic.we even walked up Snowdon 1 day. And did portmerion etc. I would think not so great in August as schools are off then :driving:

We'll be going on the 2nd to the 6th (Easter break) and apparently weather's gonna be beautiful and warm so  for topless driving

Sorry to jump in, but I pick up my coupe tomorrow from forum member Stug. We then head to the Brecons for a proper driving session. (Very excited!) :D

I like the sound of Carols route and wondered if anyone had recommendations of nice lunch pit stops around Hay?

I looked into the route carefully and there are so many (lunch pit stops) however Number 5 or Carol would probably give you a more definitive answer.

Congrats on the new purchase :driving:

Thank you

We actually got to Hay early, and I was enjoying driving too much so we carried on! Ended up completely by chance at the Anchor Inn in Tintern, Monmouthshire. Absolutely gorgeous place and fab food/pub!

This thread is brilliant! Me and the Mrs were thinking about visiting Wales during the last week in July (she's a teacher so we have to go in the school break :x) The zip wire over the quarry sounds epic, might have to get planning soon!

You REALLY do need to book the Zip wire early, especially during School holidays.
I have a voucher to use and its been very difficult to tie up a weekend that fits in with other plans and accommodation availability in the area.

Enjoy....
