Road trip to Jersey

It's the narrow lanes & curbs you have to watch for, as it's common practise to drive up the low curbs to pass. Normal tyres are just fine, 18" low profile rims will get chewed & that MAXIMUM 40mph limit is impossible to live with more than a couple of days.

Just came across this....... :poke:

Well I'm back...and so is the car without any damage!! Lovely place stopping in St Hellier at the Royal Yacht (highly recommended!) Panic on the way over as the cars were crammed in like sardines on the ferry and I was sure I would return to a few dings but no! Car was a delight although the red low tyre pressure warning light popped on before we got to poole so pulled into garage and 3 tyres read proper pressure and the recently changed one was reading 48psi!! so let it down reset the warning light and all fine! Didnt find the 40mph max speed limit a problem as everything is so laid back and 40 just feels normal...most of the time it's nearer 30...OMG I'm getting old!!
On the way back it was sooooo rough and the constant loud bangs sounded like the cars were all flying around the car deck..quite a few cars were strapped down. Suprised not to see more than 2 other Z4's but quite a few Z3's I think the road surface must be good as I didnt notice much tramlining unless I was going too slow :D

The hotel at night (obviously!)

Hi Leesfarm, great to see the Zed on Jersey - I have been considering a holiday there but had not thought about taking the car - what's the route? Did you find any problems parking or the like on the Island? Did you think it was worth taking the Zed rather than hiring? Were the crossing costs reasonable? Got me quite hopeful - don't know why I hadn't thought about taking the Zed and really fancy it. Let me know and thanks.

Caught the fast ferry from Poole. Took 3 hours to get to guernsey then another hour to jersey. Car and two adults was £208.00 return. Parking no problem. You buy parking ticket scratch cards from the hotel for I think 79p each which most of the time gives you an hours worth but every beach or historic site we visited had free parking! Roads are all quiet and everyone is very courteous flashing you out at junctions etc. didn't see one speed camera or speed hump or many policemen either. I can't recommend it enough with the Zed.

Looking good. I took my 7 series over to there and never had an issue with the width of it (except on the ferry :D )

The fast ferry did have a really small car deck. If your car had a bad turning circle it would be a nightmare. I'd also worry if I was in something fancy with people squeezing past with handbags etc

I stood next to the car until the neighbour had left. I refused to let them open the door at my side as there was only 10 inches or so in there ...

Great stuff and thanks Leefarm - that is a very reasonable fee for getting over to Jersey - a real alternative to flying costs. With what you've told me it sounds fantastic - now to convince my wife...

The Channel Islands are good... though if the weather is sunny the Isle of Man is better for driving... and of course NO speed limit on the TT mountain section. Went round there with a local man in a modified Integra type R... definitely worth going there the once even if it's economy has suffered
