Starting to plan a road trip for next year in July which will include the German GP. Here is what I'm thinking so far:

Cherbourg - Arive on ferry
Reims - Visit old GP track.
Nurburgring for German GP
Munich for BMW Museum
Switzerland - Because it is in the way! I know nothing about Switzerland :-(
Stelvio Pass
Lamborghini Museum x 2 (Dosso and then Sant’Agata)
Ferrari Museum in Maranello
Le Mans Museum
Cherbourg - Leave on Ferry

Can anyone offer their experiences to suggest some stops, sites etc roughly on the way?

Many thanks,

Sean

Have a look at the link below, from my trip earlier this year. Lucerne was a great place to stay - was really surprised how nice Switzerland was! Happy I've ticked off the Stelvio, but it wasn't the best one. I actually preferred the route coming back.

Also check out Siftah's thread (some of what you're doing): Road Trip 2010 (Summer Holiday Plans)

Probably worth having a browse through Road Trip's escapades too :driving:

When in Le-Mans visit the old town and Legends Le-Mans theme resturant is worth a look plus Mulligans around the corner is only 3 euros a pint cheaper than anywhere else in Le Mans and dont forget a drive on the road sections of the track i am sure you have this planned already.

We're heading down to the South of France next year with the Z4.
I've done lots of Euro trips by car or motorbike, but this will be the first one in a soft top. :driving:

However, we will not be doing anything like your itinerary sad to say - my wife would be bored to tears. :(
We shall be cruising down the motorway (within the speed limit) to get to the little house we rent near Nice. Then once we are there, I shall have some away days, blasting up and down some of the fabulous roads in the Alpes Maritimes.
I'm quite sure my wife will be happy to join me when I'm ready for some posing sessions, and we pop into Cannes or Monaco.

Thanks for the posts. Beginning to create a good itinerary now with the tips from this and other posts on here. Can't wait!!!

On your way south take a little detour through Schwarzwald (the Black Forest) it's well worth the effort.
There are some fantastic routes through this area - one of the best is the B500 from Baden-Baden to Titisee.
Both Baden-Baden or Titisee are worthy of an overnight stop on your way south.

I can recommend the Gasthaus Rehwinkel in Titisee.

Thanks MalcZ4, That looks good. The brother is staying over tonight, I'll certainly suggest this. It should fit in as we do plan to go to Stuttgart.

I was on my motorbike when we stayed here, the owner was a gent, he took his car and his wife's car out of the garage, so that we could keep our bikes secure.
He also had a huge map in the hall marked up with great driving roads in the area.

Titissee has loads of eating places to cater for all tastes and budgets - we did find Baden-Baden a tad expensive though.

Titisee's a lovely area, very touristy but still nice. We stayed on the campsite on the south-east shore of the lake, just a short walk/cycle into town for the pubs and restaurants (of which there are loads). We didn't drive the B500 but do recall the B317 to Todtnau being very scenic.

If you're going via Stuttgart then the Porsche museum is a must :)

We sort of did part of that trip in reverse last year: Calais - Reims - French Alps (Bourg St Maurice) - north through Switzerland - Titisee - Stuttgart - Nuerburg - Spa - Rotterdam.

Going to the French Alps next june but on my bike.Lots of empty cols and tons of twisties.........gagging to take my Z down there but my wife doesn't wish to be hurtled round endless hairpins!!!

Berchtesgaden, Hitlers gaff in the mountains.

Went last year, incredible place, incredible views.

Dachau is near your route to, well worth a look, amazingly moving place.

Cheers

You HAVE to go here

Silvretta Hochalpenstraße is a Toll Road down the mountain side in Austria. By far the best road I have ever been on and the highlight of my Euro Road Trip in June.
