Road tax

Does anyone know what the road tax will increase from in the budget as I’m sure we will be hammered again?

Probably another £15/20 if previous years is anything to go by. In a nutshell, knocking on the door of £600 a year.....ouch :o

There was no extra increase in yesterday’s budget, but there will be the standard RPI rate increase in April, so about £570 April 19-20 and about £583 (if they use the current 2.2% RPI), but probably rounded up to £585.

£585/year??? That would be a dream here in Ireland (currently paying €1809/year :x )

Is it to do with engine size?
Remember my mate who lives south of Dublin saying this is why he got a 1.9 a4 instead of a 3.0

Hi,

Yes, it is related to engine size for cars registered before July 2008 and to CO2 emissions for cars registered afterwards. A late 2008 Z4M would pay €2,350... :x

It might be worth looking at your CO2 emissions test results from your MOT and checking what’s on the log book, as major differences will result in reduced road tax.

Does that work?

I thought the tax was based on the manufacturer declared emissions, not locally measured ones?

Yes it works, mate rebuild his X5 and had a new MOT and his emissions were very low, so he wrote to the tax office, they wanted to see his original MOT paperwork, and he ended up having his tax reduced by 50%.

Unfortunately I haven’t got my MOT paperwork so don’t know the emissions output on my car, has anyone else ?

Yikes!

I never thought I would be grateful to pay "just" £570 a year. If I lived in Ireland I might have kept my 3.0Si!
