road tax..... joe public suffers again

I also think rfl is outrageous especially for those m drivers who pay £400+ for 5k miles.

They really should scrap it and add the duty to fuel... After all petrol is so expensive now whats an extra say 10p per litre going to do!

You sure it's not £245?
The op has a pre march 06 so pricing is different.

just got my renewal reminder through the door.....
£255 per year or £134.75 for 6 months. ridiculous, its little wonder record amounts of people are emigrating!
im a cabbie from sunderland with a 6 year old zed.
2 miles up the road in cleadon theres millionares with chelsea tractors paying £400 a year polluting the atmosphere 20 times the amount i am,another small example of the junked up swindlers we call the government expanding the gap between rich and poor.dont get me wrong,£400 is still crazy, but you`l probably get the jist of my argument.
sick sick sick of being screwed by these capatalist gonks.
thats my rant for the day... lol

Whilst i agree with you, that the government are robbing bastards who use the motorist as a cash cow. I dont agree with your chelsea tractor comments, by saying they should pay more you instantly become as bad as them. We are supposed to live in a free society and be able to drive what cars we want!

Its a jealousy tax plain and simple, they dont like to see people having nice things so punish them. Capitalist? I would say they are more communist. Lets get everyone out of their range rovers and onto the buses and pretend its for the environment..

Wonder what they would if everyone did public transport could not handle it and what would they tax us on instead :x i agree with putting it on fuel as i only do around 5k a year use the bus for work.

i just got mine through for my 2.0ltr diesel golf - £90 for the year
Mines just in along with the insurance renewal at the same time!
Insurance has increased again but tax luckily stayed the same.
Insurance increased from £85 to £90 because the value went from £12.5K to £15K but tax happily stayed the same at £0 :D

Drove down to Plymouth from Portsmouth last week at 70-80 all the way used just under 19ltrs fuel. Beginning to consider driving this as the main car.
It gets let out of junctions and into traffic without issue as well.

Bet you all wish you had a 2.0 now............

I wouldn't mind the road tax as mentioned before if the roads were up to scratch. Around our way they are patching the patches!

And as for the chelsea tractor brigade....we got real ones........and they run on nice pink diesel. (thats agricultural fuel tax).

Customs and excise go around checking all the diesel cars at the county shows....

Must SORN mine next year, not used it for the last 3 months and it is costing a lot.

I think I'll do the same. I've driven about 50 miles in it since November so taking it off the road for December, Jan & Feb would extend the road tax by 25%.

Sorned mine at the end of October, But as soon as my new rims turn up I am putting her back on the road, I am really missing it.. :(

Government "Get out your cars and use puplic transport" country would grind to a halt within a couple of hours if we did.

The government also spend millions on anti smoking ads (thats your tax money) if every smoker quit the country would suffer as everyone was made to pay more tax on everything to make up the billions they earn on tobacco duty.

They wont fool all of the people all of the time.

We will continue to be shafted until one honest man stands up and remains uncorrupted and for the people, Dont think we have had one of those in parliement for a long long time.

Soap box removed, Lights a cigarette and enjoys rest of evening :!:

Not even slightly LOL

The price of road tax is horrendous but it depends where you compare us too. Some countries are far cheaper, others ludicrously more expensive....owning a decent car in Singapore is a nightmare, for example. In the US, it's basically free. So we are roughly in the middle really

I work with a company in Singers and the MD has a previous version of the XJS jag. Costs him £250000 over 3 years then the price escalates sharply :o :o :o

I sold my RRS just based on this thread!! not really, but running it was very very expensive!!

My daily driver is a 2007 transit that costs about £200 tax.
Also in the house there's a 2004 z4 2.2 costing about £250 tax.
In the garage there's a 1985 Porsche 911 3.2 that when it's mot comes round - the tester has to leave the emissions testing machine outside so it's not getting broken!!!! Yet this is the cheapest car I pay tax on.
Pity it's the best part of £125 to fill the tank.
