Road Tax Disc, when to fit it?

As I said I'm just being over causcious, I have now placed mine on my car. I think the government should make it clear however stating you can put the new disc on as soon as you purchase it.

Going back to the tax increase does anyone know what the government are planning for 2011? Or are they not allowed to plan that far in advance with a general election coming up. If they continue with plans to drastically increase road tax for higher emission cars it will be just another reason to not vote for them and do more damage to the car industry
 
Although saying that £170 for 12 months! That's cheaper than my brother's 2.0l 206 CC at £210 and only £16 more than my Mini Cooper was :D

I pay £210 for my 3.0si and that's the same price as my MINI JCW S was!
 
tax wise i just change mine when it runs out, so current disc runs out 28th this month, 1st march i put the new one in.

as for the dvla, if your car has no tax they just send you a letter. fine you £120 or something like that, and ask you to tax it. i had a car i wasnt driving and left it on the street as i had no garage, police put a big sticker on it and reported it to the dvla, who fined me.
 
Did anyone see that real life traffic cop programme on Channel 5 last night? In it they caught a 15 year old, carrying a lock knife, driving an unroadworthy old 5 series with obviously no tax or insurance - oh and he was on bail already.

What did our lovely magistrates do to this idiot? - let him off with a stern warning! Not even a driving ban (although as he couldn't dive anyway i suppose that would have little impact)

For that reason i fully understand your concerns about tax discs and your mistrust for the police/dvla etc. Sods law says that they'll catch you and strip away your dignity, job, income and self-respect by massively overpunishing you and making a mockery of their system.
