Road side hand car wash

Nooooooo! Never mind the soft top they'll ruin your paint.
You'll have a car covered in swirls if you use one of them.

Don't do it, wash it yourself.

No, no and no. The lacquer on my old Subaru came off after going to one, never again!

I'd never use them, I doubt they take much care with a sponge, its probably cleaned 10 cars and landed on the ground before your car gets a wash  :o

Generally i'd agree with all of the sentiments above.

However, there is one near me with a great set up. - a whole garage. When I go there typically my car is the cheapest by about £100k

A couple of weeks back the queue consisted of a Maserati, an Adventador, an R8, a 2014 Range Rover and me!

They get super-careful treatment!! :)

Nothing like washing your own car properly anyway. Finish drying it off, step back (don't light a cigarette because I quit) and admire it.

Bloody hell Zed Five!, -where do you live, and anyway, HOW MUCH do those guys charge? :o

Have to agree, who cares like you cares?

I take my company car to a hand car wash and they do a good job for £6.

I do the zed myself though 1. As it's satisfying and 2. I don't want them to pressure wash or spray on the roof

i used the A1 wash in liverpool a few times, you see some pretty fancy cars coming out of there (the local jag/landrover dealer goes there) and tbh never had any trouble and the car is usually super shiny after. the only thing i dont like is when they put on the screen as it smears really bad. if your in a bind and you really cant get to wash it i would say use these guys or the equvalent but chose well there is another one nearby that i wouldnt go to at all.

Unfortunately, if someone has a nice car doesn't necessarily mean they know how to clean it properly! :poke:
It's like anything in life - there are many way to do the same job! For me personally (and a lot of car owners) the mass market roadside car washes are a no go area.... :driving: I am sure there is a thread somewhere explaining the reasons why but one of them is the harsh chemical they use to clean your car. They can have a long term damage to your paint work, wheels etc...

x2, they'll use wash media that scratch your car to hell also.

The reason they look good afterwards is because they'll apply a liquid wax to mask all the swirls (probably why the windscreen smears).

Personally I'd never use them. Spend an hour cleaning your car yourself.

maybe but they did a great job when i was unable to. they claim to use autoglym products. i had one of their groupon deals done on my focus before the Z. it took a couple of hours to do the outside and inside with a little army of guys and it was polished using the autoglym hi def stuff. the car was never so clean!

all of their staff are atuoglym trained and they seem to know their stuff as they have been happy to discuss the products they use and what preferences i have.
they dont use chamoise or those nast blade things. last time i went though with the Z before i was able to wash it myself they even went though all the roof cleaner stuff etc with me.

so yes you cant trust all of them and i guess they could have just filled up the bottles out the back with any old s**t or put a few posters up etc but given the number of fancy cars Ive seen in there and they quality of the work Ive had done i wouldnt distrust all car cleaners. if we did detailing companies wouldn't exist.

Doesn't really sound like a "road side hand car wash" if it takes 2 hours? Sounds more like a professional valeting outfit?

I'm guessing OP is talking about the 10 minute side of the road places that costs £5-15.
