I have a few to do one mine (it's grey on grey primer so not super urgent) and I was going to follow this approach.
There is a similar guide - someone may have the link - that uses a razor blade wrapped in masking tape to carefully "de-nib" the blobs of paint used to fill in the holes. Seems to work well and the fact that AMMO use a similar approach gives me some confidence that it's a worthwhile use of time.
As with all of these things it does come down to whether you can put a price on lost weekends/evenings. If you'd enjoy it and can Man-Maths it into a valiant, money-saving endeavour, then go for it.
