Road Noise - runflats?

I know runflats are not universally popular, for several reasons - but does anyone have much experience of how much they add to road noise?

I've had my 3.0si Coupe for about 6 weeks and really like it - in fact, love the engine! The only small thing I'm a little dissapointed in, is road noise. From 30mph plus there always seems more road noise than I'd expect (noticably more than my e46 M3 convertible with the hard top on for example). Is this normal, runflats being rubbish or something else? It doesnt sound like a wheel bearing or anything else to me, just plain old road noise.

The reason for knowing is that I will need to replace one of the rear OE Bridgestone runflats shortly, and I will have to either: a)replace that one tyre as the mileage I do means the others will last another year b)replace all of them with normal 18s c) hammer the VISA for CSLs, Eibachs and some proper rubber.

I cant really afford "C" at the moment, but if keeping runflats means keeping noisy tyres I may have to find a way.
 
It'll most likely be due to a combination of the runflats and you sitting near enough on the rear axle, right near the rear tyres.
 
I changed from runflats and im pretty sure the road noise isnt as bad drives better and i swear im getting better mpg as well :D
 
To be honest didn't notice any difference in road noise, its our crappy road surface is the problem, now go over to France and you'll experience totally noise free driving, a joy to experience !!!!!!!!
 
Doubt it's the fact they are runflats

Might just be the make and model of tyre that's noisy but in my experience the differences in noise are marginal
 
I don't mind them either.

I've just bought a set for the 224's and had replaced them on the 108's in August.

Think I've spent £1600 on tyres in the past 6 months.
 
The first drive in my z4c was 60 miles, starting with motorways. I thought the road noise was terrible! Made my head hurt. Since then, I've normalised to it, and don't notice it now.

Was your car sat for any period of time before you bought it? Sounds unlikely, but tyres sat for a while at low pressure can get flat spots, which even out after a bit of driving to redistribute the rubber and oils. Before they even out they can hum a bit, or somy local tyre place reckon.
 
Just switched from runflats to goodyear f1 asy 2s this weekend and have to say the change was dramatic in terms of grip, handling and noise. Really noticed it on way back from track day when I let the car drift down a hill, in high gear no throttle and I could barely hear the tyres.

I have two bridgestone 255/35/18s for sale if you're interested. Did 13 months on my car and still have 4-5mm. No repairs.

I noticed a big change going from OEM Bridgestones to Vred Sessantas in terms of road noise - unexpected but welcome.
