Road Bike in the boot

Anyone ever attempted to put a road bike in the boot. Can you do it both with wheels off bike, frame in first then wheels on top. Clearly not then being able to close the roof. But will it fit. I've got a 90 drive to the bike manafacturers tomorrow and would really like to take the zed and not the ford focus. i dont need to carry anything else.

I think the front forks may be a problem
I'm not at home or I would try it
You could always drop the roof an belt it into the passenger seat ;)

+1 its the forks that will prove the issue.

Otherwise get yourself...

Roadster: Saris Sentinel 2

Coupe: Saris Bones 2

Used both on roadster and coupe. Highly recommended.

I think it will depend on the frame size and whether you want to take the bars off or not. I think it will be a tight fit, but may well fit if it's a small or medium frame.

It's a 57.... So on the med/large size......

Not sure about bike rack on boot of an E89. Manual says not to do that.......

This pic makes me cringe

Any bike carried outside the vehicle makes me cringe nowadays. A month or so back on the A14 near Cambridge on a Sunday morning a people carrier with three bikes on the roof came by at speed in the outside lane. A mile or so up the road a rather nice mountain bike was laying on the grass verge and the bloke in the vehicle was walking back towards it. Imagine the carnage and damage it could have caused to other vehicles if it had come loose whilst in the outside lane. :?

I would be careful trying to cram a bike in the boot as you will easily damage the netting etc.

Tim.

Yep your probabably correct, the lack of people saying on here "Yes you can" means I'm taking the focus in the morning...... I also keep having the vision of an "oh bugger" moment as bike scratches pint either getting it in or out.....

Just not worth the risk.

I agree, drive all that way to a manufacturer and then find that it doesn't fit or if it does damages the bike and/or boot.
If you have a hatchback then that is surely the vehicle to use for safely transporting a bike.

I tried to fit my Boardman road bike in the boot and couldn't get it to fit - had the same problem in the coupe too in spite of the hatchback. I ended up standing the frame up in the passenger footwell and on the passenger seat and putting the wheels in the boot but be sure to protect the seat, particularly the ends of the forks. I'd take the Focus and once home spend an hour trying to see if it will fit in the Z4.

Chapeau! :driving:

Blimey, you're a worrisome lot arent you?! :)

Yeah you could use your hatch to transport your bike but its much more fun using the Zed. Just make sure you secure it properly, thats all. If you dont then its like any other car rack and your own fault.

Live a little guys!!

Below evidence of referenced fun; both with my old roadster and mcoupe.

...and before anybody says it, dont worry about the bodywork/glass etc. Its not 1982 and these racks are designed to safely, securely and softly work with your car. The weight distribution is perfect with pressure on the places that can easily take it.

+1. Lost a bike off a roof carrier once on mway - bounced over central reservation. Scarey 15 mins or so waiting with the police whilst they worked out what had happened/what we were responsible for. Luckily... nothing major. Someone had hit it, and snapped/folded the frame - but they'd not stopped (must have made a mess of a car...!). Never forget the relief at not having caused a major accident/hurt anyone.

You obviously don't leave your car unattended, at a motorway service station for example, then? :?
