As of today, you have to PAY to collect someone from Gatwick Airport. Why???? I can see the chaos now - people walking 100 yards to get past the "paying" zone and get in the cars there.
As a tip - in the arrival hall, there is a lift next to "Departures" which goes up to the shopping centre, or down to the service area. Go down, and you end up on the parallel road of the A23 where people can stop to pick you up. That is also where the crew is picked up by their busses.
