The first time I heard Niki Laudas name mentioned was in the school playground when I was a nipper and some older boys were telling that corny joke to each other;
‘What’s the name of that racing driver bloke, what’s his name? Niki Lauda?’
‘What?’
‘WHAT’S THE NAME OF THAT RACING DRIVER....’
:lol:

RIP fella

That's sad news to be waking up to today. A proper racing driver and to come back from those horrific injuries only a few races later in 76 was beyond unbelievable. Another great I'll miss watching F1. RIP Niki

A great photo of one of F1's greatest rivalries. I'd like to think Lauda and Hunt are in the bar tonight having a few drinks and reminiscing about the good old days :cheers: They'll be in great company with the likes of Clark, Hill, Peterson, Surtees and Senna etc etc.
I'm going to raise a glass (or two) to them all and watch my 'Rush' DVD :thumbsup:

Really sad news.

I always watched F1 from my early years (my Dad was a big Jim Clark fan, being a Scot) and I remember seeing Nikki's crash on the TV so clearly - probably in part because that was the year I got my car licence.

He was a great talent in a car, but more recently seemed to perform a great role for Mercedes in their GP team.

The F1 grid/pit-lane won't be quite the same without him. :(

I very much enjoyed his interviews, usually post race. Very honest and sometimes didn't say the correct corporate stuff, which was great :lol:

Poor guy had been through hell the last year or so.

RIP to a great man :thumbsup:

Very sad news. By all accounts, a proper legend with an intriguing character and life story.

Has anybody read a good book about or by him that they can recommend?
