RIP Nelson Mandela

Going to be a rough ride for a bit down there I would suspect ...

A truly great man, a very sad day. But by God, didn't he have a great innings

Rest in peace.

Grew up with his principles, did the protests in the 70's. Changed banks in the 80's. Bought the record in the 80'sand jumped for joy in the 90's

A true hero

Some amazing achievements - graceful ending after his long illness.

I think he was owed that for the 27 years of incarceration. Probably the most dignified person in living memory. RIP.

Indeed :)

Just read - the premier of 'Mandela - Long Walk To Freedom' is this evening in London, and his daughter is there :(

A genuine statesman, A leader who lived his life for what he believed to be wright and good. A single man who brought stability to a troubled nation. The world needs people like Nelson Mandela. His influence is going to be missed.

RIP

A titan of our times, make no mistake. Did some questionable things and I think it's important to remember the full picture in remembrance and respect and I would like to see some fuller and more in depth accounts of his whole life, but without doubt he changed the world for the better.

Gotta love David Cameron's hypocrisy...

'Hang Nelson Mandela and all ANC terrorists - they are all butchers' - (from a poster of the Conservative student group that David Cameron was reportedly on the exec for)

'A towering figure in our time; a legend in life and now in death - a true global hero' - David Cameron on Nelson Mandela, 2013.

I think everyone in our lifetime (old enough to recall the past 20 or so years) will refer to Mandela as a great part of history and a true icon. Unfortunately times change and older people who didn't live to see him transform South Africa may only ever know him as he was branded " A terrorist".

Personally I am thankful to see what he achieved and be able to remember such a defining part of history. Who knows People we see today as terrorists may be seen in a different light in the future.

Makes you humble and think about what we complain about.

Got to agree with marchantsuk, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, who gets to make the definition? Are the Chechens terrorists or freedom fighters? Gerry Adams, is he the British Mandela? Osama Bin Laden?
