His family confirmed that he has died, the stars are certainly leaving us this year. He was the perfect foil for John Cleese. Very very funny
 
I remember seeing a documentary he made, he was born in Berlin, his family were Jewish and were among the lucky ones who managed to escape before the war.
He was very funny in Fawlty Towers.

I was surprised he was 86, he came across as a really nice chap in interviews, a fair innings but another good 'un gone. RIP.
 
Very sad. I too was surprised at his age. I thought that he was the star in Faulty Towers.

His Manuel character always takes me back to happy memories of childhood holidays at the osbourne hotel in Ilfracombe where there was an identical real-life waiter that looked and spoke like him! sigh
 
Sad day for Comedy. :cry: Though a blessing in disguise, as he had been suffering form Vascular Dimentia for 4 years. RIP (No more smacks on the head from the boss now) :wink:
 
He left us with some cracking comedy sketches.
Fawlty towers was filmed near me in Buckinghamshire, the building was burnt down years ago and there is now a housing estate on the land :|
