Sad news, also 69. Perhaps not one of 'the greats', but a hugely entertaining actor. I loved his mad-as-a-bag-of-frogs portrayal of the Sheriff of Nottingham in Prince of Thieves. Wasn't bad as Snape either. RIP

Fair point, he was actually a significant and prolific stage actor too - not an aspect of his career I was overly familiar with before today.
