'Ring trip planning

Hello all,

So, having now owned my Z4C for around 9 months, and absolutely loving it, I'm planning a trip to pay homage to my favourite race track, the Nürburgring. :D

Am planning to make a 10 day trip of it in May, visiting the Swiss alps, stelvio pass, Monza, Tourino and back up through France. Mixing it up with visiting some scenic areas, enjoying some good nights out, and plenty of petrolhead related things :)

We're still pinning down a specific route, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions of particularly picturesque routes/great roads/other recommendations that we could try and fit in. Anywhere around Western/Southern Germany/Switzerland/Italy/France/Belgium?? All suggestions welcome!

(or knows some great stretches of German autobahn en route :driving: )

Additionally, any other advice? Planning on taking a spare set of pads with me (although still need to replace the stock ones & discs before I go, as well as switch to non-RFTs as a start)

Thanks!

:thumbsup:

PS. We've got a few cars going (non-Z4s), but if anyone wants to meet us at a track en route let me know!

Belgium has very little picturesqueness, however, I'd recommend starting off with a night / day / night stay in Bruges before heading off to the 'ring. Northern France also has little to recommend it, scenery wise. I'm quite happy to recommend the Dorint at the 'ring. There are loads of brilliant roads in the Eifel region around the 'ring, but I'd probably get on the Autobahn and get as far south and east as possible. I'd go through Austria and via the Timmelsjoch pass into Italy, where you're not a million miles from the Stelvio / Davos run. Try and get in the Susten or Furka pass (or both.) Then beetle over to the south of France and take in the Col de Torini before heading to Nice. Take the N85 (Route Napoleon) up to Grenoble and then peage down to the bottom of Millau to go over the bridge and then head home. :driving:

You might find this link handy for cheap and cheerful hotels.

Thanks Spokey, thats some very useful info.

We've come up with a rough route

London -> Brugge,
Brugge -> Dijon/Lyon area -> Torino
Then across from Torino to Monza
Monza to the swiss alps, head to Stelvio, Furka, Susten, via a few stop overs
Then up to Munich, and then Munich to Nurburgring (maybe via Strausbourg), (1.5days?)

I will definitely post pictures - very excited :) first time I'll be taking this car out of the country. Will have along with us (atm) 911 C2S, E36 M3, Evo 8 and maybe an Elise - so I should be in good company (and be able to hold my own)!

Hi Polak,

The Autobahn A1-E422 crosses the Mosel river near Trier in SW Germany. Take highway 53 that follows the river to Cochem, then head to Nurburg. The ride is gorgeous, vineyards as far as you can see, the river itself, villages just out of fairy tales. If you stop everywhere you get the urge, plan on a week enroute :)

Not sure I'd recommend taking an Elise for that drive - someone's gonna end up with a sore bum (each to their own...). Pretty harsh ride, and the autobahn at 200km/h for a couple of hours will test his (hers?) patience! :?
