Ring Subscription Increase

Blink do a system owned by Amazon. No subscription required. They do offer one but it’s not needed👍

Just a bit of a heads up, if you have a yearly Ring subscription. If you cancel your subscription now or before the price increase on the 11th March and take out a new yearly subscription before the 11th it will renew at the current (old) subscription price  If you have any subscription amount owing with cancelling your current plan early any amount will be credited back to you.

At least it will defer the price increase for another year :)

I just renewed my Ring subscription at the old price, £80 for a full premium service which covers multiple cameras (I have 3).

I’d no idea abut price increases, but I’m OK for another 12 months.

I'm unsure the increase affects the premium subscription at present just the basic, I wonder if Ring are testing the waters.

It seems to have been picked up by Martin Lewis, press, Ring Community Forum etc with alot current subscribers vowing they won't be renewing.

It does seem a greedy increase.

Daft as it sounds one of the plusses for Ring for me is ability of being able to hook the outdoor cameras to a solar panel rather than relying of just batteries.

I never bothered with the solar, but the rechargeable batteries last for a couple of months on a full charge so no probs really

Forgive my ignorance where Ring is concerned but is subscription compulsory?

I have Tapo cameras and while there is a fee if you use their cloud storage service but if you use a memory card you get all the same stuff but it’s free.

The only difference is every so often you have to wipe the memory card when it’s full.

You lose pretty much most of the cameras and app functionality without the subscription.

The outdoor cameras I find are pretty good but no SD card option so just cloud storage which is what you're subscribing too but at the new rate of 49 quid a year per camera its a cheek really.

As said earlier I do like the solar panel charging so the camera runs indefinately without having to charge the battery seperately. I don't know of any other outdoor cameras that can be powered by solar.

Not compulsory but no cloud storage without it.
So if there are no incidents recorded then why do you need the cloud storage?

Just purchase a SD card with a large capacity and wipe it clean when necessary. My system records only when there is movement, SD card cost me a fiver at Argos and lasts about a month before it needs wiping. I can dial into the cameras from anywhere over WiFi and watch live if I need to or if I get an alert on the phone.

With Ring cameras if you have no cloud storage subscription you can't save any motion clips just live view only. There's no SD storage on the cameras.

Problem is for its customers is if you have alot of investment in their cameras and don't wish to renew your subscription it kinda makes the hardware slightly useless apart from live viewing so unless you want to renew all your hardware you're slightly stuffed. It's a poor show by Ring as they must have an awful lot of cameras out there, video doorbells etc.

A near 50% subscription increase is pure greed.

And live view cannot be continuous either which is why I can't use them for my camera setup. I use an old iPad to display one camera's live feed but cannot use a Ring camera for that, so it is just an IP camera (with recording on a NAS).

I purchased a Eufy over Ring as there is no subscription. Buy it and iits yours for good.
I dont use any form of cloud storage specifically to avoid future charge introduction,
I also understand that Ring data can be accessd by third parties such as police etc?

Very happy with Eufy in terms of detection rate, clarity, storage etc
( I bought it after ASDA delivery no show for which I was still charged - turned out the driver took the shopping back because I didnt answer the door - he was 1/2 hr early - Luckily I had a CCTV clip of him leaving with the shopping .......)

Does it link to your Alexa Show? I do like it when the Ring goes, that the person is displayed on the Alexa devices so I can see who it is

I dont have an Alexa - not yet seen the point!
The Eufy is set for Motion and face recognition - if our front gate is open it detects passing farm vehicles otherwise it pings to the mobile phone with a short clip for as long as there is motion and automatically captures a face shot. It also allows 2 way voice via your mobile
Apparently "Connecting eufySecurity devices with Alexa is a simple process. To accomplish this, you'll need to add eufySecurity as a skill in your Alexa App. Once this is finished, you'll be able to use a variety of Alexa-enabled devices with your eufy Security devices."

The only reason it is handy on the Alexa is that I can voice control the gate to open it (security still maintained via the link to my phone in my pocket)

I am happy to try any devices as customers ask about the best way to integrate those into our Gate control systems.
