Ring Cam

I have two Ring Cams, a first gen and the latest gen with a solar panel.

I had a message from Ring flash up on my phone yesterday to say they are withdrawing support for the first Gen cam. When I opened the message it took me to a blank Ring Web page  which was useful.

I checked the cam in the Ring app and it was offline with battery power at 37%. No problem I'll reconnect it and get it back online. Problem is it now won't connect and when I've tried to charge it for the past 24 hours the battery status isn't changing. Thought I would try and delete the cam altogether from the app and reinstall it. Problem is now you can only add the latest devices which have a QR code which the first gen cam doesn't. So looks like the cam has had it. Next step now is to try and get a subscription refund as I still have 8 months still to run. Nothing mentioned by Ring on a refund. Just a poor show as there must be still be alot of first gen cams out there with live subscriptions and I bet Ring won't go out of their way to give Automatic refunds, especially at nearly 50 quid a year per cam.

And keep your eyes peeled for the cock of the north.

Cancelled the yearly subscription on the cam Ring have withdrawn support as its not working now. I was expecting them to refund the subscription balance which is 8 months remaining. All they have done is credit my account rather than do a money refund. So they obviously expect me to automatically renew my subscription next time around at 49 quid. Ok it will be minus the credit amount but I may not renew once the current subscription expires :|

Always quite liked their products but the company behind it not so much.

Maybe Ring are reading this thread :)

Received an email from them out of the blue and are sending out a free camera worth 90 quid to replace the old one which must be nearly 10 years old.

I wonder how many free cameras they are sending out worldwide :o

Thanks, yes it's 90 quid I didn't need to fork out but wander if Ring have replaced it knowing I'm more likely to renew the yearly subscription at 50 quid. As I have 2 cameras that's 100 a year. Not being a cinic but probably only costs a tenner to manufacturer the cameras in China so easily recouping costs.
