Rimming...CSL content

Fitted a set of OEM CSL's yesterday.......erm just wow. I knew they'd look good, but f**K do they look good!!!

1st up I should appologise to Jaime (jamiesecker) for backing out of a potential deal to buy his set that were for sale on here, but given that I was still running my winter tyres and they were getting a bit wobbly I figured I'd better take the hit of an extra £50 and go to Murkett's BMW, Huntingdon to take them up on what was a very good deal.

Have added a set of Michelin Super Sports (from event tyres, who yet again turned up at Gaydon and fitted the tyres quickly and without marking the wheels), which are already looking like they're well worth the money.

Not sure why they've come out so grainy, guess the HDR isn't always a good move.

The ride is firmer thats the down side the plus side they look the bol :P kes
 
Looks great!

.... as Playalistic said, would be interested to hear what you think of the Michelin PSS, if you've got a comparable (? perhaps not if the CSL are new...)

I need new rubber all round, rears are on the limit and it's PSS I'm thinking I'll try.
 
What tyres did you go for?

The Michelins are feeling very good so far. They were always going to though after 4 months of soft winter rubber.

I've only got the Dunlops that came on the car to compare to (and they were slightly different side wall due to profile ratio's) but these already feel a lot more direct and seem to turn in better than any tyre I've used before. Can't wait to see how they improve as they wear in. :D
 
I went with the Verdiastines due to cost £600 for 4 plus wheels not a cheap day :roll:

Im chucking the car into the bends trying to get it to slide so far great and the tyres haven't done 100 miles yet :thumbsup:

I assume the PSS tyres would be even grippier can't see the need so far i also don't know about the wet but i wouldn't drive the car in the rain unless caught out. :)

Well mine's a daily driver, so figured I'd got for the best I could get. Very nearly went with a set of Yokohama AD08's, but the deal I thought I was getting wasn't as good as I thought it was!
 
I've just taken my CSL wheels off and put the OEM 18" with track rubber on for a while. The CSL's may look the dogs but my god the feel of the standard wheels with good rubber is amazing, especially the turn in. They are a little tricky when it pours down (which it does quite a lot where I live) and they are quite firm but I'm liking it at the moment.

What tyres do you have on your CSL's and which track tyres have you put on your 18's? I've got a set of CSL's with Michelin Cups on and they are also superb in the dry, the grip is outstanding. I'm putting them back on the car next week when my winters are taken off and CSL's are refurbed after a hard winter.

Are you attributing the improved feel on the OEM wheels to the tyre and wheel combination or just the tyres? The reason I'm asking is that I get a very similar result to yourself with the Cups on 19" wheels.

The CSL's have Vredsteins on and to be honest they are very good. The OEM's have Kuhmo V700's which by the way are very very good tyre, comparable to 888's and Cups in my opinion. I think the improved feel comes from a combination of both to be honest. The Kuhmos have a very straight up and stiff sidewall and I'm sure this a contributing factor. I'm going to put some OEM tyres back on the 18" soon and sell the track tyres so I'll get a much better idea then.

Have you not thought about trying some 'better' rubber on the CSL's? I've heard good things about the Vred's, but are they really in the same league as Michelin Cup's or Super Sports? If you're going to take them on track, answer's probably not.....

As for the arch gap, there's been plenty of banter in the office calling it an X5, but to be fair I don't think it's noticably different from the 18"s. I've no intention of wrecking the ride quality with some lowering springs, so a full set of bilstien/H&R's aside it's staying as it is! :P
 
Optical allusion i reckon there the same height but as the new tyres are a lower wall it makes the arch gap look bigger.
That's what i think :P
 
moonigan, i was wondering, what sizes did you get the Kumhos? Do they come out in Z4M OEM sizes?
 
i thought long and hard before i put eibach springs on my ///m but i'm happy with the results because imo i think the ride has improved and the car looks far better on the eibach springs :thumbsup:

The sizes are not OEM but for trackday tyres it doesnt matter as much. 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 . Need to make sure you go for the hard compound as I know of someone who had the soft and they were toast after one morning.
