Rim / Tyre Upgrade for 2007 3.0 Coupe

Hi all,

newbie here so please bear with me. My SLK is being swapped for a 2007 3.0 Coupe in Black, (due here next week when it arrives at the dealer). I've got some money off because all four tyres are on the limit and the two front rims are corroded (looks like the owner has never cleaned the rims since new).

Because of the money off, I'm planning on junking the wheels and fitting some new ones. I'm after either some BBS (or similar) ones in the style of the traditional multispoke design (or BMW CSL), in either silver or anthracite (like the image below). I prefer the one piece cast type to the split rims (I also prefer the price!). I'm going for 18's as opposed to 19's as I'm sure the ride is fidgety enough on them already. I'm happy to go for a cheaper alternative (TSW, League etc if anyone has ideas?)

Can anyone advise on which tyres to fit? I'm a bit anti run-flat (I've yet to hear a positive word about them) so I guess the usual suspects, like the Contisport Contact 3's or Pirelli P-zero's are in order along with a 0² Canister repair kit. Are these a good choice?

Thanks in advance

Eeek.. welcome but you're going to have some fun with that username, lol.

Plenty of discussion on here about replica rims vs oem ones, & corroded 108s are pretty common if that's what you have. Also plenty of tyre-choice threads too - some fans of newer generation RFTs, others prefer Falkens, I have Vredestein's and they're simply brilliant.

Have a quick squizz of the FAQ and you might pick up a thing or too

Thanks for that, I suppose it may be considered baiting with my username :P

Not sure what the number is, but they are the standard fitment multispokes (shown below). I've take a ganders through the FAQ, and indeed the best thing I noticed was that I can get the sat nav to go 3D

Sweet, glad it was of some use to you.

I really like those wheels, would you not consider getting them refurbed instead of buying replicas ? :)

Pirelli P Zero Rossos on all corners here and loving them (Can only compare to RFTs though)

They're nice, but every Z4C I come across is wearing them :(

I've seen some BMW Motorsport alloys (the have BMW Motorsport inscribed around the centre) that look like BBS items. But for the life of me I can't find them anywhere! I suspect they may have been BBS items just with BMW decals added.

SLK Driver, welcome to the forum...

These wheels below appear to be BMW type 135...

The ones you mean can be found here (http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw_alloy_wheels/3_series_e91_alloys/18_bmw_216_wheel_432) - they're type 216; they were from a limited edition 3 series. I think they would have the right staggered fitment to work on the Z4.

This place has a decent range of BMW alloys, although the Z4 sections isn't great.

Personally - I would get the alloys you have refurbished anyway - they really do suit the coupe. If you don't like them after a while, when you have a fully refurbed set of wheels to sell - in bad condition you won't get much for them. Alternatively, refurb and keep them with a set of Winter tyres on.

Magic, thats the ones! You may notice the motorsport bia in my choises :D

It would probably be worth my while refurbing them and slapping on some winter tyres, if nothing else so I don't foul up the finish on the new ones in winter. Has anyone here run winter tyres with success?

Well - my brother used to have a Merc Sport Coupe out in Switzerland - he put winter tyres on there and they were fantastic (I drove it a lot up to ski resorts) and there was amazing traction on snow / ice. Well worth it I think - and if you have spare rims then I reckon it's a no brainer.

Good link, but this link here: http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ also gives you the wheel sizes and offsets too - click on the picture of the wheel.

(tried clicking on the pics in Peddy's link but they lead to an error for me)

Cant have been reading here in much depth then :poke: Michelin's run flat tyre the PS2 ZP is actually very good - everyone is probably sick of hearing me say it but tough
