Rim protectors

Anyone had experience of the rim protectors for alloy wheels?

I'm considering a set for the Merc given the wheels are still pristine.

I've heard of those gator things. There seem to be loads of others on the market that do the same job?

Any good?

I've got the rubber rimblade protector's on my Z it covers the scratched rims. The alligator type look good but having to hammer them in between the wheel and the tyre rims worries me about deflating the seal on the tyre.

I did run with the alloygators saved my alloys on two occasions - quite easy to fit - on thing that bugged me was the joint - never got it quite right - always looked a bit naff :x

Dont like the look of them, make the wheels look cheap.
I would assume if you were to hit a kerb with these fitted you would replace it as it would look just as bad as a scratched alloy.
Personally if you dont want kerbed alloys just drive more carefully.
Both our cars have very slight kerb marks on one wheel that were both done by the previous owners.
At some point when they start to look a bit tatty with paint lifting they will get refurbed.

The Rimblade stick-on jobbies have been discussed before http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=42730&p=606869&hilit

As I mention in that thread I know the guy that developed and marketed them. Having sorted some early issues with adhesives they are now worldwide and even offered by some makers as an official accessory. Apparently prep of the rim before fitting is the biggie.

But I wouldn't fit them personally
