Rim Configurator & Visualiser

I stumbled across this German website when i was looking for wheel options.
It allows you to select the car, colour of the car (not all options available though), Select rim size, Brand of Rim, Model, and how it would look if lowered.

It's a great resource if trying to figure out which rim would look good on your car and how it would look.

I'm sure there are other sites, so feel free to pop them up here if they are better..

Yes thats a great visualiser site. I spent many an hour with photo editing software seeing what wheels looked like before staying with my 326s. I just like the style too much. :thumbsup:

I also discovered that it's great for providing possible tyre sizes for ones car.
So if there are variations in sizes for a specific rim diameter or if it's possible to have different sizes for back & front then it provides those options as well.

Then it's down to decisions, decisions...

Yup. I posted the German site because it's one of the better ones i've found for breadth of wheel types and ability to configure & visualise for a specific car including lowering etc.

Use that for suggestions & to see what the car looks like but buy within UK to avoid taxes & import duties.
 
While we're on this topic I'm caught up with a little confusion on Offset. Example I'm on 8.5 X 19 fronts with +35 offset & this fits very nicely
which is almost flushed with the fenders. Now I've read of others using different brand of wheels but same spec & yet their Offset is +28 !!!!
My only assumption to this is that the mounting thickness of the wheels to the brake hub from various Brands are different, if this is correct then how does one find the correct offset ????????

Thoughts pls thks

I always thought the ET gave you the amount of offset measured from that mounting face, so don't see how that could be it?
7mm isn't a huge amount of difference and could perhaps be absorbed by a lower profile tyre or using a different brand of tyre with a more pronounced roll to the shoulder?
 
Thats why you stay with a similar wheel width. if you change those, the depth of the wheel will be affected by both.

As the ET is the difference from the centre of the wheel to where it attaches to the hub. you can add a 7mm spacer to give you +35 if its the same width, and thats what you needed to give you the same look as before (although the smaller spacers are harder to fit..

Yes to my knowledge this is so as well hence was scratching my head as to how others are with +28 offset when Im on +35. Yes 7mm isn't much but it could be the difference between rubbing & not rubbing on the wheel wells. The other question the bothered me as well is the ackerman geometry. If we push the wheel too far out without keeping the width ratio of the original wheels in balance, it definitely will affect the cars turn in handling which will require a change in suspension set up no ???

If you move it far enough then yes it must have an effect. Not sure, given all the tolerances and rubber bits in the suspension, just how much extra effect that would have though.
It is the reason I put spacers on the rear and left the front alone.
 
Guys here is more confusion, how can the offset be so so varied !!!!!! Hope someone can help clear up this confusion .

So for an E89 the offset as set by BMW is 29 mm and 40mm rear, they are assuming front rims that are 8J and the rears are 8.5J or 9J

If you add spacers you reduce the offset which pushes the wheel/tyre combo outwards, eventully fouling the wheel arches.

If you buy wheels with offsets much larger than standard you run the risk of brake /suspension fouling which is what happens if try some of the E85 wheels without spacers on E89s.

The available space between the arches and the brakes/suspension limit the range of offsets AND the larger the alloy wheel and/or tyre the further the range is reduced.

What's also true is that arch fouling is a function of lowering of the suspension / amount of travel encountered on bumps AND for front wheels how far off centre the wheel is when a bump is encountered.

Also there are individual tolerances in the arch plastics etc..so I had no fouling on my 20is but I do have fouling on bumps on my 35is, with similar ride heights and identical wheels.

Since most limits are reached on bumps, it may be true that one person says he has no fouling and another does simply by the speed and type of roads they drive over.

The key issue if that the front offset also effects the scrub radius of the front tyre..this is a critical variable and has a BIG effect if its changed too much, either way, but especially if it gets to low..so big spacers on stock rims on the front is a big no no..
 
Thks for the reply B21. Now im on 8.5 inch with +35 off set & it fits well without rubbing even on lowered suspension. More confusing in the link that I posted, there's a guy on 8.5 fronts also with +35 offset & yet he added spacers so what gives & another on 8.5 but with +29 off set. Truly confusing lol

He has a -35 offset..he added spacers say 10mm that will take his offset to -25..so both are close to the 29 mm offset ..if he added a 5mm spacer he would have been at -30mm offset ie pretty close to stock 29mm :thumbsup:
