Revving and engine light when idle

Hi guys,
After driving in sport mode in my 3.0si auto coupe my engine light has started coming on. It seems to be once I have to stop at a red light or stop in traffic the car revs very slightly and then settles, but the engine light will then show up after. The first time the light disappeared by the time I drove it the next day, but this time it hasn’t gone away. The car seems to be driving fine so I’m curious as to what it might be. The car also died once at a set of lights after it revved, but it started back up again after a couple turns of the key.
Obviously I need to have it diagnosed in a garage, but in the mean time does anyone have an idea as to what it might be?

Get a code reader on it. If you say where you are, someone local may be able to help you out, or spend £50 on a Creator C310+ (widely available). Could be a split in your intake pipework somewhere, DISA valve, throttle body, VANoS. All are doable DIY fixes, or an expensive visit to the garage, once you find out which it is.

Could possibly be a duff cam sensor causing your symptoms but code reading it is the way to go before replacing anything.
Creator 310+ or 410+ as Zedebee suggests would fit the bill.
