Reviving/Painting Seats

Guys,

I need to paint/restore the black leather seats in my car and have been looking at products

Anyone have experience of Gliptone or Colourlock products? Or anything else they’d recommend??

Thanks in advance

Furniture clinic stuff is good as well which is what I have used. Not tried the other companies offering similar products but I am sure they are equally as good.

Like all painting, it's all about prep

Don't be afraid to sand, the original leather finish and the new paint you put on can be sanded. 800 grit works well but if using new paper or block use it on a bit of wood first to take the edge off.

I find it easier to buy 99.9% isopropanal alcohol from amazon than a shop.

Oregon black is probably your colour
New England black if you have extended leather
Walkanappa black if you a Z4M or nappa leather seats.

How would I know which? What is extended leather?

I def don’t have a M 😢

Thankyou

Do a vin check on the car to get the full spec .. then go on to scratch doctors website and find the colour . They have all the bmw ones … I’d just buy the alcohol cleaner and all in one dye

Ive used some stuff called Back to Black. It works well, but needs fairly regular applications (once/month). I only have some wear on the drivers side seat bolster area.

Google back to black leather color if your still looking.

That will be oregon black

I used the stuff from the Furniture Clinic and it still seems okay after about 1.5 years. I think I bought the wrong black however as it was a bit too black at first. And shiny.

I haven't done this but I believe the lesther repair paints come with a gloss finish.

You could apply a matt or satin finish after with this product:

https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/leather-finish

The leather repair paint doesn't need a final finisher as it's an all one product however using a matt finisher may get you the results you want.

Maybe a leather repair paint can be order with a matt finish?

Have checked the VIN info and it is Oregon black. I will order some up this week and have a crack.

Am thinking of also putting this on after,

I’ve used their Platinum Trim in the past and was very impressed.
