Reverse parking sensors - How much

Hi there,

I'm wondering anyone can help.

I have identified a Z4 2007 which I would like, the only thing the car hasn't got which I'm interested in is reverse parking sensors.

Does anyone know how much I would expect to pay for something like this, or even is this something that can be added to a Z4 if it hasn't got it already?

Is it something thats worth asking the dealer to fit before I buy? ie is it a minimal expense.

Any advice greatfully recieved.

I'd probably question the need for rear parking sensors to be honest. The Z4 has such a short bum that they're not really needed!
 
Honestly, you need to try reversing one into a spot first (if you havnt already).

Its the easiest car to reverse I have ever driven. You are sat right over the back end and the visibility is really good out of the rear window. I also have a golf and I would say that it is more difficult to park than the zed.

Plus if you were ever unsure about backing into a really tight space you could always drop the roof (10 sec) and you have 100% visibility.

A waste of money in my opinion but hey somebody else may think otherwise.

I too have never had a problem judging where the rear is - it is really only just over your shoulder...

The front however is another matter entirely :o
 
Actually, IMO I think it's pretty useful having them. They pick up odd areas/objects you might not see when reversing, plus if you live in an area where parking is tight then they're a lifesaver for getting you in that spot that doesn't initially look large enough.

Cost wise I'm not sure though. Replacement sensors are quite expensive so i wouldn't think its going to be a cheap job. think there are a few third party options out there you put behind your bumper. Somebody here did it on a VW Polo a few weeks back if memory serves.

Installed parking sensors (non BMW)

Have one sitting in my spare room, currently working out an install for the front using the same kit - it works well in the living room so far!

Other things taking my time right now, but hopefully in the next month or so. Install for the rear is a doddle.
 
To retrofit you'd need a replacement bumper with moulded holes in it, 4 sensors, loom and PDC module. Def not a cheap retrofit at all.

If you did really feel the need then go aftermarket as inkey$ suggests. pvr has fitted silver strip type inside the bumper on other cars, so may be along to advise
