Reverse camera /canbus

I've had a licence plate reverse camera sitting here for ages that i've not installed
(mainly because the thought of removing the head unit/vents again puts me off)

But with a crap load of leave to take so might get it installed/have a go next time i'm off.

afaik these tend to just get hooked into the wires for the reverse light, the cam gets power and the signal cable tells the unit to flick over to the appropriate video source.

but does that canbus system go haywire/give bulb warning lights and the like if you use the light for power for the camera ?

I asked a similar question on here and was told it would not, I bought some reverse parking sensors that are wired the same way but never actually got round to fitting them, just couldn't bring myself to start drilling holes across the bumper.

I did fit a reverse camera to my previous car (Hyundai coupe) and that never threw up any errors with the lighting system

ironically so did I, i had a 2lT SIII but the coupe doesn't have canbus to worry about lol it had next to no monitoring for lights/tyres/brakes etc

did most of this today, got the vents and the headunti out with way less hassle this time

worked from front to back so i've got the head unit attached to the signal wire and video cable (tested it as well)
and fed it into the drivers footwell and round the edge of the console through the cubby hole behind drivers seat and right through to the boot/rear cluster in about 30mins, pretty easy tbh

gotta try the last part of feeding it through the rear licence plate light hole and connect it up tomorrow

is blue with yellow stripe the reverse light live?

I have reverse camera numberplate installed and works fine. Connected into tv module so appears on sat nav screen when I engage reverse.

Git it all hooked up apart from the power now, heading to buy a couple of connectors this morning
Got a few conflicting posts about which wire/pin is ground though

Any more info on how you set this up, my new Z has the factory nav system so I had thought reverse camera would be out of the question but you just made it sound like it could be easy?

(btw brown is ground, blue/yellow is the live reverse, the lads diagram in the facelift light retro fit he must've taken the pictures after his pin changes)

link to video not play as it private. are you referring to mine "the lads diagram in the facelift light retro fit he must've taken the pictures after his pin changes"

video amended
and no the first post in this http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17666

sorry i'd already finished by the time you'd made your post so didn't even see it :)

mine was slightly different to yours since it's an aftermarket headunti, all that runs from the boot>headunit is an svideo lead and something to trigger the reverse signal switch over
this from a uk seller was well worth the £5 since it had the signal cable built in

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6m-Extension-Cord-Camera-Video-Audio-Cable-With-Reverse-Trigger-Line-For-Car-Cam-/291634168913?hash=item43e6c04451:g:z5wAAOSwHQ9WZUxU

asides from that signal+cam power > lights blue/yellow, cam ground>lights brown ground
done
