Rev limit with cold engine

I stick below 4.5k rpm untill I see the oil temp past half way.

Cheers all the van drivers up when they go rattling past a sports car, after I've pulled out from the hill start onto the A38. :)

New model 30i I would not push my 30i more than 5K in the first few miles, but as soon the temp needle moves then I never found it a problem pushing to redline if needed. At 6K in 3rd thats still above 70mph!!.

On the 30i and my new 28i temp gauge never gets above 3 clicks and never seen them halfway which is 120oC!!!.

My old models sat at half way in normal driving.

To be honest I rarely redline them, even 6K is rare unless overtaking.

To be honest I seem to remember it's torque you want to avoid when the engine is cold, or generaly putting a strian on the engine. So if, as I do, you have to pull out onto a dual carrigeway up a steep hill, when the engine is cold, it's better to use the mid range revs, in the lower gears, than stick it in 6th and bimble.

Hope that made sence. :)

Agreed, Im a 2 3 6 man, drop to 4th from 6th if needed if going less than 30mph. So 1 and 5 rarely used. If going from 30 to 60 mph (onto country roads), Ill drop into 4rd then 6th at 60mph. So revs will be less than 3K in most cases

Light throttle opening when cold and the auto box looks after high torque loading and changes at the appropriate time, it just keep the motor spinning nicely

Up changes when cold are about 3.5k
