Rev counter won’t go to zero

Hi peeps I would really like your help if you can ?
My 2006 coupe 3si has this fault the rev counter will not go back to zero it’s stuck on 1200 rpm :headbang: even when the engine is switched off.
When I turn the engine on it sits at 2000 rpm so hasn’t completely stopped working plus it revs up ok . Have done the speedometer test using the hidden menu it works fine but the needle goes right over to the end passing the redline

You can run compensation routines to recalibrate this sort of thing using INPA

Thanks Greg how would I be able to do this ? Is it a trip to a garage ? And sorry what’s INPA ,, I’m a newbie to this.

Welcome to the forum by the way OP - it's good to see another Coupe owner.

I'm not too into all the diagnostic stuff but I believe INPA is the software BMW use for reading and resetting fault codes, so it is maybe a trip to a garage unless you find someone local who has diagnostic kit.

Good luck getting it sorted - and maybe post a photo or two of your car! :)

You can run INPA off a laptop using a OBD cable, the software you can download for free. But if you don't know what INPA is I suggest you don't even think of going down that route, garage it is.

Nice one chaps . Really good forum this 👍🏻 Will put some photos up of my coupe next time the sun is up .

Where are you based? There might be someone local who can help.

was it working ok or has it always been like that, it could be someone has played with the dials and not put the needle back in the correct place!!

It seems to be working fine now :driving: very confusing :headbang: . Plugged it into a obd fault finder but showed nothing really is weird just hope no grease monkey 🐒 has been playing around with the clocks in past.
