Rev Counter Needle Issue

Hi, I bought an E86 at the end of June and I love it, but recently I noticed the rev counter wasn't behaving.

Rather than not working at all, it seems like the needle sometimes gets stuck in the wrong place, so it'll get stuck halfway round the dial. When driving it'll still move in line with revs, but it'll start from a random place, say 4000, then move round the dial, but it won't drop back down to 0 again.

The engine etc is all working normally, it seems like the needle has just come loose on whatever holds it on to the dial, so it moves around a bit - does anyone have any solutions? It feels like if I could get the cover of the rev counter off I could just move the needle to the correct place and fix it - has anyone taken the covers off the guages before?

Any help or advice very welcome, thanks
