I am looking to retrofit sat nav to my z4. The main parts I need:

Nav screen 16:9 ratio in black

And new Stereo CID

I can find the brackets and wiring harness thru ebay or dealer. I also found GPS antenna on ebay....any help would be appreciated..thanks

todd

ebay is you best bet, do a international search, I bought my monitor from greece and got lucky on the head unit which is hard to find.

DVD Mk IV also fitted to Range Rover, Mini and Rover 75.

Monitor is not the same as fitted to X3 so be sure you get the right one.

Head Unit is the same as the X3 only difference being the X3 ones have a chrome ring on each knob.

Good luck in your search.

Brackets? No brackets needed for the retrofit.

srhutch - thought that the dashboard screws were the most difficult parts for you to find :poke:

This guy looks to be breaking a black Zed with nav. Here's a screen.

I think Todd was referring to the bracket needed to support the MKIV unit in the center console.

David

That is all in there already, no need to buy any brackets unless US spec cars are different from European ones.

Wow you guys have been helpful already! Thanks so much, and Yes David it right about the brackets. I am referring to the ones that mount the DVD in the center console. US cars (at least mine) don't have it. So I will need a new cubby and brackets.

Grey is very different on a black dash, so would not look right. The first satnav retrofit I did was with a temporary grey one, brand new at £50 but was only in the car for a week or so before the black replacement was fitted.

Grey is only ok in a grey dash car.

where did you find that one for £50?

I'd like to do this for my car,but parts are very rare and the ones on ebay are very expensive in comparison to the prices you guys are talking about.

That was on ebay. Nobody wants grey and 99% of the Z models have a black dash, so no market for grey at all.

For that money, it was just a case of "how bad does it actually look" and yes, it was pretty naff on a black dash. But great for testing the whole system out though. Think I was the first ever to retrofit a satnav in 2005 so it was a bit of pioneering.

If you buy wisely and over time, you should be able to get all for £500, if you are a bit more inpatient, it will be more like £600.

time is not a problem,I am in no rush but as far as I have seen, there is a dvd player on ebay for £700 brand new :tumbleweed: and another one from Lithuania for £400 or best offer.

next would be the monitor then the headunit, right?

what are the prices for the wiring harness? and the gps antenna.

also,if I buy parts over time, how can I check them to make sure they do actually work?

Wiring harness from dealer: £53
GPS from ebay: £10

Buy the wiring harness first and install it, that is completely independent of all the work you do. You can plug the bits in there and test as you go.
