Retrofit Wind Deflector

Hi!

New to the forum & hoping for help...

I'm about to buy a 2013 28i & the one I am interested in does not come with a wind deflector.

Can you buy & fit the BMW genuine ones & is it easy?

Yes you can buy them from BMW but they're expensive,they occasionally turn up on ebay so try there
Don't know how easy they are to fit but give the search button a try think there's a few threads that may help

To fit the wind deflector you will need to replace the rear sides of your roll hoop covers (behind the seats). You will also need to purchase the fitting rails and screws from BMW. DO NOT buy these on Ebay some scammer is charging £40 for them, I paid around £6 for the brackets and £10 for the screws from BMW!. I think the roll hoop covers were around £20 each.

Fillister head screw, 4 required - 07147129679

Doing the conversion will take you 20 - 30 minutes, very easy.

I am with you on this, wigtype. Been looking on fleabay & wondering if OEM is worth £400 when I can buy perspex or mesh with velcro straps for £100 - £150. At the end of the day it does the same job, what kind of speeds do you think you'll do with the roof down?
But got to admit I am still wanting to get OEM deflector, I guess because it is in keeping with a quality vehicle.

Like people have said they do pop up on ebay from time to time, I managed to get one for about £60-80, this was just the deflector itself though, I still need to get the hoops and mesh inserts etc but it will still work out cheaper in the long run. I have done around 80 mph with the roof down without it and didn't think it was that bad without it to be honest.

My first E89 didnt have one and I thought this was a problem until I bought the second car which did have one and I honestly noticed zero difference between one with and one without.

It always surprises me the difference in personal opinion with car matters, I find a large difference between having the deflector fitted or not! :lol:

I will be taking the deflector out of mine next week when the car gets traded in against a Scirocco....

I will be selling the deflector and carry bag..... make me an offer .

Will also be selling an excellent unmarked, crack/kerb free set of 326s with RFTs on them...

Oh and a red bmw touch up pen!!!

I tried a Perspex blocker and sent it back as I found it actually caused more wind in the car rather than less. I’ve since bought a genuine bmw blocker but not had a chance to fit it yet.

Fitted genuine one to my 23i and instantly noticed the difference. Legs and hands stay warmer and you can actually feel the effect of the heater. Got mine complete on e bay for 250 inc p & p. All in immaculate condition.

NO NO NO you have a beautiful car why spoil it with chinese crap. The perspex ones do not work, they are solid and the OEM is a mesh which reduces wind movement. The strappy ones will wobble around and the strap completely ruins the look of the hoops. Just bide your time and one will pop up on the bay. I bought mine brand new in its bag for £200, I paid around £15 for the mount brackets, screws and caps From BMW and I think £20 per modified hoop cover, again from BMW (the BMW store on Ebay).

It has to be oem in my opinion. Although an e85 I think it makes a massive difference, especially if you make the most of the long summer evenings and the odd night with the top down.

Finally got around to fitting my BMW wind deflector yesterday and tested it today.
There is definitely a lot less wind around mr head & heck but oddly the tops of my legs were colder than without a blocker.

I don’t have the mesh in the roll hoops. Does anyone know if this actually makes a difference? I can’t really feel anything from that area. I am 6’1” so the seat is back far enough to almost block it anyway.
