Just won a TV Module (knee jerk ebay buy) Although i did check the model number and it is a MK4/16:9 compatible (want to hook it up to a mini DVD player - or Ipod if possible?)

Anyway - has anyone fitted one of these and are all the wires preinstalled on a 53?

As always thanks in advance
Richard

No its not a hybrid - but i dont want it for freeview, keen to hook it up to a mini DVD player, or even ipod if possible

Zed five? ill drop him a PM

Thanks

Hey Richard, I'm inprogress finishing mine off, my 04 didn't have the cable that connects to the rear of the satnav dvd, part number is 61 12 0 304 979 check that just to be sure as they are non returnable at around £30, you'll need a AV cable that then goes between the TV module and the retrofit cable (fleabay search BMW AV cable), this cable gives you an AV channel, then it's just a case of adding either DVD, freeview etc. I went down the freeview route and it works really well if your in a good signal area, I'm going to need a booster for the aerial. The DVB-T box I got has a USB and SD card slot but haven't tried to use either as yet.

Hi Dave, so you can use the NAV DVD for playing DVD's?

I'll have a look to see if im missing the cables and get them sourced on ebay

PS you have any pics of your setup?

Thanks again
Richard

Hi Richard

I don't think you can play standard DVD's on the NavDVD drive, the retro cable for the TV module goes in to the back of the NavDVD I'm guessing this is to get the feed to the monitor in the dash. No pic's at the mo I wasn't happy with the power cable that came with the freeview box so need to change that before hardwiring, it's ok for connecting to the cigarette lighter but not thick enough to hard wire with the plug removed.

Pretty easy retrofit, worse part is removing the housing around the DVD to pull it out to get to the back so you can connect the cable. There's NO space for the TV Module in the boot I'm going to either get the original bracket and carpet or fix to the boot floor and custom make a carpet to fit over.

This link is to fit the CD changer but it has the instructions for removing the rear storage cubby, but looking at page 10 I didn't bother with picture 4 I just used a cut down coat hanger to remove the drive as shown in the first picture on page 11, once the DVD drive is out its just a case of connecting the cable, best to push it into the car from the boot side.

I'd say it taken me longer to type this than to fit the cable, I will take some snaps and try and write a retrofit up when it's all done. Your not to far away If you need a hand just let me know!

Rich - you have PM with the first draft of the retrofit instructions, let me know if they read ok??

davegt, would it be possible to send me those retrofit intstructions if possible? I have bought the tv module and wiring harness that goes between the tv module and sat nav computer and in process of receiving av cable. I am looking to install a DVD player and I wanted to confirm really (via your instructions) where you are getting your switched power (as opposed to constant power) from? I figure you can get ground and negative from cig lighter but please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the help either way

Yeah no problem, just send me your e-mail address, as for power supply tbh I haven't finished my install (I've done less then 500miles in 4 months in the Z) best bet is to google 12v car supply to get a few options.

What kind of freeview box are you using?
I have found one on tv in motion but its £499 on top of the oem tv module.

Thread revival!

Gathering bits for this now.
Gonna try and get Apple TV through one input then rear camera through the other

Apple TV have RCA output? The input cable you add into the loom has Audio (red/white) and Video (yellow) inputs only. The Red/White are combined as the input is single channel but it sounds fine anyway. I've got a freeview tuner with USB movie player attached in the same way. Watchable, but not top HD quality like I'm accustomed
