retrofit sport button.

I use it all the time. I hate the muted fly-by-wire response when it's switched off.
Why have a throttle pedal that doesn't do anything for the first quarter of it's travel when you can have beautifully delicate control over a snarling, spitting monster over the entire travel of the pedal?
The only button I love to press more is the DSC button...although I am a little afraid of that one sometimes :P

Just read this thread as I wanted to know what this was about... as for another suggestion: you could fake the "sport" effect on any kind of car by retrofitting a bypass with valve right before the standard exhaust, such as the guerilla bypass mounted on this Z3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_cy4bin6Kg&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL8CF69524983F1CA2 (you can hear the valve switch halfway the movie)

Normally the valve is operated with a small remote control, but it could be fitted to the "sport" button...

I was actually wondering what the sport button did the other day, other than quicken the throttle response. By what's said above it sounds like it also weightens up the steering a bit. Anything else? Does that mean that sport button off is better for parking, or does the steering get lighter at parking speeds regardless of the button being on or off?

Nope... the steering is still pretty heavy trying to parallel park with the sport button on!

I hardly use mine, only for when i want to play traffic light GP!

Sports button is more noticeable on the auto's - infact scratch that, it's like the car getting a kick up the ass

I often wondered if the sport button was more "the placebo effect button" but now I've had the car a good few weeks I can honestly feel the difference, especially off the line its much more responsive.
- As a result of this the traction warning light flashes up alot more.

That said I personally see it as a warning to my passengers to brace themselves for warp speed.........

Pure placebo effect as all is does is reduced the amount of movement of the gas pedal from closed to WOT. The result is you apply more throttle than expected and spin the wheels a bit or think it's more responsive.

Only true differences are:
Reducing the assistance on the steering to give more 'feel'
Changing the auto gearbox change points and harshness of change.

omg... on or off the steering in this car is wonderful if you think its heavy you should have tried my focus compared to this its positively light and wonderful in the z4.
i find driving about town its fine without it, trying to overtake etc on a nice a road it seems livelier but i did wonder if it did little more than changed throttle reposnce

Thanks for the replies folks - I imagine that I'll leave it mostly on then, for extra feel through the wheel.

The steering improvement on non ///M cars is great. This is main reason I use Sport mode 99% of the time.

The steering without sport mode, IMO is a bit vague, and doesnt really inspire confidence. I would love to drive and ///M to know what normal hydraulic power steering feels like.

It's a shame all electro assist cant be switched off with sport mode, that would make for a really interesting drive.

Great, thanks for clarifying guys. Looking to pick up a Z4C on Saturday, so just watching the seconds tick by until then...

Tick... tock... :tumbleweed:
