Great idea to fit PDC to front, I think it would be a good addition to the Z4, has any one done this, is it easy?

You can buy an OEM kit for PDC at the front. IMHO its ugly as it uses 4 sensors mounted onto a replacement number plate mount, but is just a plug in.
I have the idea on a vague project list to replicate the X5 system where the front and rear PDC sensors are connected. Engage reverse and the rears come on, drive forward and the forward activate and then both stay live until you drive off and reach 8mph. Since the kit is plug in I see no reason why bumper sensors could not be fitted using the same cable and connector set up.
Frankly though I'm sure one of these kits could be adapted to front use.
That sounds a good idea, I have PDC front and rear om my X5 and loved it
That Parking Dynamics one looks great, but why do I have to remember to push a button to use it?
Also, if it's one electromagnetic sensor (with a bumper-length antenna), does it work best when you're reversing to something metal/magnetic, or will it see the tree/kerb as easily?

The OEM bmw one is ok just a bit optimistic on the indicated distances, for example when it shows 0.3m its more like 0.5m.
Its not a good car to park I dont think having such a long bonnet it can be deceptive, when I first drove it home the sensor came on telling me id stopped 0.3m close to the back of the car infront, mind you the twat did brake suddenly on a zebra xing.
then in my second day of owning it I mustve parked like less than 0.1m away from the wall of my garage, I didnt realise the sensors go on and off, so I had like 0.9m on it went forward then its all red P-- lool, purely luck I didnt crash it that day I tell you
Im all good now tho and I pilot it like you would a cargo ship
Of course being WVM 5 of the 7 days im used to things the other way round, short front but a long back end.

Here's a retrofit kit from these guys http://www.parkingsensors.co.uk/ piece of pi55 to fit, comes with the correct size hole cutter for the bumper. Believe it or not the ones on my car have NOT been resprayed!!!! i ordered them in GREY & i swear to god they must have been sprayed BMW sterling grey coz they are EXACT!!!! everyone thinks they are factory jobbies!
That kit looks pretty good value. Liking the idea of having front ones too!
Not sure on their 40-0cm range being the same tone though. I can get within 40cm easily, it's the last 5-10cm that I want to know. Ie, beep at 20cm, beep more at 10cm, beep constantly at 5cm!

I can't understand why you need sensors on the rear - its only just behind you. I can understand why less confident parkers would want front parking sensors though.
Is there a way to turn off the sound? It really pi55es me off, especially as it goes nuts if you reverse between two bollards, garage door frames etc.

The only material which has a lower detection is pure ceramic and glass if not containing contaminating particles.
