Bmw in Northampton want 50 quid to fit the wheel which ill pay , but say that it costs nearly 130 pounds to retrofit the cable as they have to do some sort of coding for the stereo as it dosent come with the multi function it wont work? is this true as i have a pre 09/2003 without the cable and business cd head unit, i thought it was just plug in the cable and the multi function should work , there saying there not sure so may have to charge , joke is they want me to know !! Is it just plug and play as such or do i need some sort of coding for it to work with the stereo ?

I think they are having a laugh! retro fit instructions are on here if you have a look you probably already have the wiring installed as well

On pre 09/03 cars you need to fit the retrofit cable. There are many threads on it and I can send oyu the pdf instructions

No coding needed at all on any I've ever seen or done. All I'd do is buy the cable and fit it yourself. For half the price drop by and I'll do it.

Even if in some bizarre chance it needs coding (which it won't) they can just do that later

I was quoted £1k and they wanted the zed for 2 days at my local BMW stealer to retrofit M wheel :|

Cooper Reading? If it is, don't get me started!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
They might have been looking at the M wheel with tri-colour stitching, which is, for some strange reason, much more expensive (about 3 or 4 times).

Christianm, if you need the retro fit cable it's about £15, to fit the cable and the steering wheel takes less than an hour and thats with waiting for 20mins after disconnecting the battery before removing the airbag, I retro fitted the cable and MFSW a couple of months back it's an easy job to do and it doesn't need any coding to work, its plug and play. Dealers in Northampton are usually ok have you tried Autobarn? I found them ok when i had my roof programmed a couple of weeks back. Alternatively If you need a hand drop me a PM.

thanks for all the replies, ill say to them just fit it for 50 then and thats that, as they didnt have a clue if it needed it or not.Dont really want to mess around with a airbag for sake of 50 pounds when speninding 100s anyway as i am paranoid about it lol.

It's easy to check if you need the extra cable, there's a screw hidden under the plastic trim around the steering column shown in PIC 3 of the link, undo the screws and remove the trim, once the trim is removed you'll see the green plug in PIC 9 if you have the PURPLE/YELLOW and RED/WHITE/YELLOW cable then you don't need the cable if you havn't then you need it. Checking with takes less than 10 mins.

Where abouts are you?
I'll swap the wheel over for you in 5 minutes (plus 15 waiting for the airbag) It really is 2 clips, 2 connectors and a nut.
