Retrofit Homelink Mirror

I don't know why you'd think it would be standard as, in the UK at least, the percentage of buyers that would actually have a use for it would be tiny - and BMW would rather you paid extra for it

People have successfully retrofitted it to other models
see http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=450516 and http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=881073

Had to look that one up.
Main problem I find with the mirror is with the roof down, all I can mainly see is sky and hard to see what's behind.
The optics of the dimming mechanism in the mirror seem to be designed wrong.

I use my mobile phone with GPS for all those functions (gates / garage), much more flexible and also useable when outside the car.

I have it in the X6 and although I dont park it in the garage I have programmed it to open the garage door, handy to find out if Nicki is in or not before I park up.
An annoying thing about it is that it doesnt work unless full power has been switched on in the car. You cannot just switch on the ignition and it works, it doesnt work until you turn on the engine or turn on all the electrics with a push of the start button, without starting the car.
Its handy but if you dont have it its probably cheaper and easier to fit one of those universal openers that fit in the cigarette lighter socket.

Yes but you had to invent all of that :poke:

Worth it though :D

Making it even more idiot proof so even you can install it :poke:

Seriously tempted by your kit Paul, just wondering do you still have any local control , for example if connected lights to the system would I only be able to switch them using the app, an if can be switched locally does the app show the current state

Mark - all existing controls remain as is, this is in addition to that. Just implemented 3g connectivity as well for locations where there is no LAN connection, as well as configuration via a local access point on the unit itself. Also bought unlimited DNS sub domain names for them, which means that it is fully plug and play now without the need for any port forwarding or local router changes. That was a full month of development to get that completed.

You would always qualify as a beta tester Mark and get a unit cheaper as you helped us out a while back.
