Retrofit electric memory seats

Hi All,
New member here, don't have a Z4 yet but having test driven one recently will definitely be getting one soon!

After test driving, one of the things I decided would be a bit of a must have is memory adjustable seats as my partner and myself will both use the car and have quite different seating positions and found it a bit of a fiddle to set the seats exactly where I would want each time...

It doesn't seem to be a common extra and I can't find a how to on retro fitting them if I ended up getting one that didn't already have them...

Has anyone done it before? is it possible?

Thanks all!

Welcome…. Yes it’s possible and straight forward assuming adequate skill level…

Fantastic! thanks for pointing me in the right direction, no matter what I searched I couldn't get that to come up! now to see if I can find any seats! seems like the E89 Z4 are unique e.g. not used in similar age E92 for example?

I've bought quite a few E89 seats. I usually pay around £200 for them. You need to watch Facebook and Gumtree for breakers to advertise that they are breaking a Z4 and then message them about the seats.

The most common areas, for me in the south of the UK, to find them is around Kent and Birmingham though there are places up north but it's too far for me to travel.

E89 seats are not really in demand and they struggle to sell them so don't pay top money.

You can also swap the metal mechanical bases over from standard seats and sports seats. Seat bases from other 'E' generation BMW cars will fit but just double check the seat belt points are the same. An example is an E90 will fit but an E93 won't, if I have my numbers right, an E90 is a saloon and an E93 is a convertible?

Anyway for simplicity stick with E89 and haggle them down in price. Most E89 seats are likely thrown away. As the cars get broken they become less water tight and the interiors get ruined. Quite often you see pictures with the windows wound down.
