Retrofit Folding Door Mirrors?

Not sure.

But interestingly after nearly 10 months of ownership, I remembered I had them fitted to my ZMC and actually used them today :roll:
 
On Z4um there was a chap called "Bristolboy" or something similar and he was going to do it, but not before it went down. I would say it may not be too difficult, but I am 99% certain you need to buy new mirrors and not just certain parts, plus the control unit too, so maybe £3-500 :thumbsdown:

They fold upwards manually too in case you didn't realise, but they are really stiff.

I wonder if you can get it programmed so that when you lock the car the mirrors fold.

I knew they folded manually, i just have a thurst for knowledge ;)

You could satisfy some of that thirst by endlessly browsing the parts on http://www.realoem.com - might give you more of an idea about the mirror parts and how you could do it :D
 
yeah i was in the middle of looking into this when he raised the post, it does look like u need actuators, new switch for the drivers door, and yes unfortunately - new mirrors.

combined with the cost of painting etc, i decided against it.

if you get further and manage it for a couple of hundred quid, id probably jump in too :D
 
I asked the stealer when I was buying my M as it hasn't got them. He looked into it for me and his responce was a big NO!

Apparently you need a new wiring loom! Not sure if this is specific to the M or the Z4 range in general. Same for cruise and auto dimming exterior mirrors!

Although to be fair I had them on my 2.2 and used them alot, but havent really missed not having them yet!!

I don't like how the mirrors fold... up and back, exposing the mirrors to the sky (and whatever falls on it).. I'd hate to see one with bird s**t on it. Good luck cleaning that mess up.
 
Everytime I wash the car I use them. All the collected water runs out of them which is great so it does not leak as soon as you start driving your just-dried car ...
 
If you don't have the electric mirror folders, isn't there a way to fold up the mirrors manually? Seem to remember there is.
 
Look forward to hearing if you manage to do this - though the fold-on-lock function will not be possible as the Z4 control module doesn't have this functionality within it. So I guess you'd need to try using a different module... Which probably won't work ?

If its an e89 could he just get the smart top module as well? This lets you fold mirrors on locking.

I don't think fold on key should be too hard. You should just be able to take the signal that drives the solenoid for the central locking.

I am no expert on the electric set up of the car, and tbh I have never seen a thread where someone has fully investigated all the potential solutions. I just know that it cannot be coded by a dealer, and nor can it be enabled (in a Z4) using an Intravee.
 
I wouldn't be that difficult. I was more thinking of wiring it in to the switched ignition.

This is for 2006 onwards. All you should need to do is short pin 2 to 16 (this is equivalent to pressing the button). Buy a relay switch and Bob's your uncle.
