hi guys can you retrofit electric heated memory seats, my car has manual heated seats but would really like the electric memory ones the adjustment is so much better with electric ones got my eye on a pair on fleabay
You can retrofit anything, but this is one I've never heard of or seen.
Of course they would be a straight physical fit, but you'll need to do some extensive research to see if you have the correct loom in place and if and how they get connected to the module that controls them via the key and door opening. I'm sure they would need dealer coding to recognise them and switch on any such ooption for each key. IIRC the memory fuctionality is in the seat itself?
Limit of my knowledge as I've only reconstructed ///M sports into memory frames.
thanks for the reply. i just read your thread on the m seats i have heated manual seats but don't know if the wiring is there to fit electric heated memory seats its a 2003 model and don't know if they came prewired like they do for cruise control
Your 03 should have the wiring looms. My 03 and most other 03's I have seen or read about on this and other forums had a complete wiring loom installed. It was easier than several different looms.... I think that changed late in 04.
You may have to dig for it.
Do a search on how to remove your seats that I posted a year or so ago.. they are REALLY easy to remove and then look around for the connectors.
right i am going to give this a go tomorrow, am i right in thinking that i have to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes before i unplug the seat connector ?
Any YELLOW connector is for the SRS Restraint system. Before you touch them, be sure the battery is disconnected... 10-15 min is normal.
If you do not disconnect the battery, and start playing around with any SRS connector, then you will trip a SRS AirBag light and needing a trip to the dealer.
whahoo just done this today and everything is working, well chuffed so the wiring must have been there thanks guys for your advice followed your thread on removing the seats shipkiller so will have to get the manual heated ones on fleabay
Glad you had the appropriate loom already in place. Didn't realise until your subsequent post that it was a 2003. Think BMW were lazy in the early days and fitted pretty much full looms to everything
Thinking about this myself recently. Just out of interest, is your's a 3.0? Assume the loom would be the same for the 2.5, but may check mine just in case.
On second thoughts... are the ones you're taking out sports seats or standard?
(Not sure if they did manual sports seats.)
I have done the same thing on mine, it’s a 2004 model and didn't have the looms, it’s not very hard, but you need to remove a lot of staff to pass the cables bellow the carpet.
Consensus seems to be that they changed things in 2004 so I'm hoping mine comes with everything in place! Be good if BMW were that lazy then... I am now! What you've done sounds like hard work.
Is the heating in the same loom? Did you retro that in too? Not a fan myself, but if it's there would be good for passengers and selling on. Obviously that will need the buttons adding too.

Andreas - what cables did you need to get this to work? I have some electric bases that i didnt get round to fitting as i had no idea what cables to order
hi pawnscarifice mine is a 03 2.5 i had the basic heated manual seats but i wanted the basic heated electric ones because they adjust to give you support under your thighs, the manual ones only go back and forward and up and down but the electric ones you can tilt the base as well, it was really a simple plug and play
Thanks adey, I've advertised mine for sale (high price speculative) with a couple weeks left to go, but I suspect it won't sell in which case I'm doing some upgrades... this will be one of them!
Other than the Dension, any other upgrades worth knowing about?
its a bad time of year to sell really not unless someone is going to buy a z4 as a christmas present the mods i have done so far are the zhp gearknob well worth it, cruise control which was simple as wiring is there and cut the cowl out myself might use that if i take the car abroad next year, the dension gateway 100 excellent mod, upgraded bulbs to philips x-treme power h7 do make a difference, and now the electric memory seats i think i have one left to do and that is mfsw then i think its complete for now
I know what you mean about selling now, I was convinced I wanted to upgrade but having chased SK down a couple stretches of open road on the cruise last weekend I am not sure what I'm going to benefit... I bet he'll now tell me he was just lumbering along in 6th! (whatever that is)
yep i know what you mean when i got mine i was really looking for a 3.0 but went and had a look at one and out of the 2 the 2.5 was a better kept car so brought on the condition of the car, sometimes i think it would be nice to have that 6th gear and did contemplate on selling mine and getting a 3.0 but when i done a long run and got 44mpg and going the 1o miles to work i get 30mpg can't complain really, now my efforts are going into getting a motorbike again
