Retrofit Cruise to an MR

Hi all,

Looks like I have found my perfect car - however, it doesn't have cruise control and although I do very few miles, it might be nice to have as a future addition.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to my query on suitable companies or DIYing it... has anyone any information on this subject?

I have the stalk and loom waiting to do mine. Just need to find a car that had it retrofitted to see what wires were tapped.

It would be nice to make this common knowledge and not the black magic it is at present.
 
100 or so all in. Stalk and loom required, no new steering column shroud as you can cut as required. It's not that difficult a job either.

Damn that homepage... well the instructions for non were pretty crap. It seems people have had it done before so surely all you need is the pin location in the engine bay?
 
Hopefully yes it will be that simple. Just need to find a modded car that someone will let me tinker with.
 
I take it the same kit (wiring loom) is used. There are only 3 connections with that so unless there is some coding required then it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
 
That's my thinking. I do have a few pictures from somebody but they aren't very clear. Might take a look under bings bonnet next time I see him, although his is factory fitted.

Answer is yes you can add it but it isn't just the stalk you need so around £300 to get it done.

Many thanks Crusoe. Interesting reading. I don't mind mods but splicing wires gives me the creeps - especially when I read about weird wires missing or earthing wires being obvious in the engine bay. Sort of answers my questions about getting one without Cruise...
 
a member sent me this picture after having theirs fitted. I need to compare against mine to see if I can see the additional wire. If I can do that I will contact them and see if they can tell where it's connected. Looks like there maybe an additional earth wire going to the big terminal near the enclosure.

Yes, I'd agree with your last point. Not messy by any stretch of the imagination. You've restored my faith a little.
 
looks very neat, i would definitely like to do this, however I'm more of a mechanics typa dude, electrics aren't my bag.
 
Mine was retrofitted by CPC Performance Engineering in Amersham. I was under the impression that they simply spliced it into the loom under the new steering column shroud. I don't remember them mentioning any other wiring being required.
 
The CC loom only has three wires, two connect to the back of the LCMand the extra long blue wire gets routed to the DME box. I cant see it above though which is a bit worrying.

Steve, if you'd like, limited tinkering with mine would be allowed, as long as you don't leave it cruiseless :P
You'll have to wait until I get my car back from some fairly heavy mechanical modifications and a remap though (all of which should yield around 375 purely naturally aspirated horses and remove the vmax limit :evil: ). The eta is around ten days at present, but might be extended...

Thanks all, after all this the car does have cruise control - I'd also spoken to an old member (AliV6) who I know well, so that had settled my worries about retrofits.
