Retrofit Cruise Control Diagnostics

It's your only option now really. It's either the car, the loom or the cruise stalk.
I’ll see if I can find someone local to borrow one to test.

Or, if anyone’s around the rugby/leamington/Gaydon area and is willing to help I’d be most grateful!

OP, did you lift the flap on the connector before pushing them home?

As they are 100% not fully seated. I don't think they're making contact with the pins on the switch.

Not the easiest photos to get but with the connectors on, 12v is making it way through the stalk to the other side on the same terminal.

Continuity test is negative, no connection between the violet and the blue wire when the stalk is engaged in any way.

I’ve prised open the harness connector and they are as in as they will go.
 
I'm a bit stumped then.
With one wire going to the ecu, one can only assume the signals on set, resume, etc are sent in pulses from the gubbins inside the stalk.

Cruise can't activated below 20mph so not sure if a static test is going to reveal much unfortunately.
 
i would have thought the signals would atleast work via Inpa whilst stationary on the test screen though? Anyone with INPA able to test what their car is saying when Cruise is activated stationary?

I can confirm they do fire with the car below 20mph.

Mine was reporting signals even with the engine off, just the ignition on.

Stupid check, but still... Have you checked continuity to the ECU pin from the switch pin?

When I first did mine, the wire got caught in the lid of the engine bay fuse box. Luckily it didn't cut/damage it, but it's worth checking if you know you've got 12v

Ill give that a go tomorrow, thats the last continuity check i can do i think.
 
The Z4's came with both M54, N46 and N52 engines. Are you using the correct instructions for the engine model you have? They will have different pins for the DME connection.

CAN-bus is nominally 12V and the voltage will drop to approx 11.5V when signals are being sent. So, you can check the blue wire.

Just looked up the DME wiring for the N52 cruise control. It looks to connect to pin 4 of X60002 for the N52 engine. See the below:

Steady 9.5v coming out of the blue wire at all times, switches pressed or not.

Continuity is fine between the blue point on the back of the switch all the way to the DME connector point.

If I’m getting only 9.5v out of the blue wire then maybe that’s the route cause.
