has anyone retro fitted sat nav to their z4? i noticed there is a screen on ebay at the moment for £375.

would it simply be a case of cuttung the sat nav into the dash and wiring the thing up and i assume changing the stereo also?!?!

I would check the dealers price for a new screen, I don't believe that one one bay will be saving you any money. Intact there was a grey one at bmminiparts the last time I looked and it was about half the price of the one on eBay.

The head unit and other parts in the how-to won't be cheap unless you're lucky to get a good price on eBay.

Head unit very hard to find, and loom no longer available from dealer, you would need to modify an x3 loom.

One day, srhutch, we can retire on the profits we can make on the spare new satnav screen we have :)

I still can't believe anyone has retrofitted a screen. I struggle with even the most basic of tasks.

It's a worrying time, mine was 18 months old when I did it, but had found where I could get a replacement dash had the worst happened.

mine was about 2 months old... ... nothing concentrates the mind like sticking a stanley knife into the dash of your £40k sportscar,

To my mind, the ultimate mod would be:

**** ---> Not to use the BMW satnav screen (a bit dated now -the resolution is low; old-fashioned interface; no touch screen etc),
but to retro-fit an iPad with satnav into the very same pop-up slot.

I would then keep the existing CD/radio/multi-stack player for hi-fi audio: much neater that way.

The popup display unit seems to be available as:

I know it's not quite the same, but I fitted a Dice Duo with Spec Dock cradle in ash tray. I run the TomTom App on an iPhone 3GS and it works pretty well. Fades the music in and out for audio directions and you can see the screen reasonably well if required.
