Hi has anyone fitted this to their existing steering wheel ?,,

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT32&mospid=47796&btnr=66_0102&hg=66&fg=95&hl=2

The part quoted is for a 2.5 and I have a 3.0, but cant imagine there would be any difference ( famous last words  )

Just wondered how difficult it is to do, with airbag etc,,

And once fitted do they illuminate??

My dealer is quoting £ 145.00 for the kit and £140 to fit it

Thanks in advance,

Rusty

Hi thanks I did see that thread, but as that included fitting paddle shifts as well, which I was not looking at doing, I didnt know if the airbag and disconnecting the battery etc were relevant, I take it fitting just the volume, track changes and phone etc only incoperates two wires?

I have ordered the kit from a parts warehouse for $210 with shipping, and should have it in a couple of days. I will let you know how it goes...

Two wires. Yep. It communicates on the K-bus, which is a serial interface bus.

Thanks, Really interested to see how you get on with fitting it

This is a slighty different project to the one I did where I retrofitted a MFSW that already had the buttons on it (plus paddle shift)

I have the full BMW pdf of how to dismantle the wheel, fit the leads, cut bit of internal foam, etc. It's an easy job to do so don't pay BMW to do it.

You will only need to plug and play or if pre 09/03 fit the harness I refer to in the link (between the green connector and the LCM) and yes the airbag has to come off as does the steering wheel to get full access to the parts you need to work on

I'm away at the moment but if anyone PM's me with an email address I'll email the retrofit instruction pdf early next week

I have that PDF. But the kit I bought is the BMW kit, and I don't have to have BMW do it. Yea, it is easy...

What stopped me from buying the Steering Wheel you bought was that my local dealer could not match the pin, cable part number.

Hi Shipkiller - strange that the dealer cannot locate the cable. just in case the number was wrong I'll note it again: B61.12.0.394.848 listed as 'Cable Set' Just took this direct from my BMW invoice. From memory it is not on the normal system but the parts manager simply looked on another system and sourced it direct from Germany in <10days.

Frankly had I seen it even though it cost only £5 I could have made it in less than 5 minutes as I have a packet full of the appropriate connectors, again standard over the counter (non order) parts B61.13.0.005.197

They said something about that being a European Part number only and they can't do those part numbers. They did print out there installation instructions and gave them to me.

OK - makes sense. I can always get one for you and ship it if you decide you need it
